Glam NYE Nails + My Favorite Posts from 2015

I love glitter and sparkle any time of the year, but I especially love it for New Year's Eve!  Whether you're watching the ball drop live in Times Square, at a party, or at home, everyone can feel a little festive with some glam NYE nails.

I wanted simple nails that still made a statement.  Here's what supplies I used to create my glam NYE nail look:

Black nail polish (kit of 3 minis, includes great silver glitter option!)

I began by priming all of my nails with the OPI Nail Envy treatment in Matte.  I've used this as a base coat on and off for several years and it's a great strengthening treatment for your nails.  Next, I painted all of my nails with two coats of the black nail polish.  Then, I picked one nail (my default is the ring finger) on each hand and applied two coats of glitter nail polish over the black.  Finally, I finished my nails with one layer of the OPI Nail Envy as a matte topcoat on all of the nails that were painted black, and two coats of the Sally Hansen Miracle Gel Top Coat over the glitter nails.

I really like the mix of the matte black nails with the glossy glitter accents!  Warning, though, if you've never used matte nail polish before--it shows every little nick and wear is apparent much more quickly than with regular shiny nails.

Also, since the year is coming to a close, I wanted to share my favorite posts from this year!  I picked one from each month to share with you, and I'd love to hear what kind of posts you'd like to see in 2016!!!

Adventures with Santa

We made three visits to Santa this year.  How'd it go? Let's just say if this was a game of baseball, Santa struck out and the next team is up at bat.hahaha  Della from Della Devoted and I thought it'd be fun to let you all in on our adventures with Santa this year!

Attempt #1: Hillenmeyer Christmas Shop
Kane wasn't having any of chilling with Santa on Santa's vintage sleigh.  Oh no.  But he found he quite fun when Santa started sneaking around him.  I guess sneaking is what Santa does best. You can see more pics from our Hillenmeyer visit and read a full review of this magical little shop here.

Attempt #2: Santa at Lexington Green
We visit Santa at Lexington Green each year.  The people from Travis Clark photography are fun to work with, and we always enjoy seeing them at Christmas and at Easter.  You can read more about last year's experience and my advice for pictures with Santa here.

Does anyone remember this gem of Kane from last Christmas???  Only my child would have his fist up to Santa.

We forgot sunglasses this year, but the picture went a little something like this. . .

At least I got some good pics of Kane outside afterwards.haha

Attempt #3: Daycare
I figured that by this point, Kane would be warming up to Santa.  Heck no. . .he was still as chilly as the North Pole.  "No, Santie Claus! No!" We got one decent pic.  In the rest he was protesting jolly ol' St. Nick. Thanks for the pics, Shannon!

Be sure to head over to Della Devoted to check out Raylan's adventures with Santa as well!!!

Casual Christmas Outfit

This post contains affiliate links.  The earrings in this post were provided to me by Brandzaffair in exchange for my sharing my shopping experience with their website.  Like with anything else on this blog, ALL opinions are my own.

Christmas truly is the most wonderful time of the year! I love getting into the holiday spirit, and one way I do that is by dressing the part.  I love the classic red and green color combination of the season, so I try to work it into all of my outfits in December.

We went out to eat and took Kane to see Santa for the second time (which was more disastrous than the first.haha) on Sunday.   I dressed festively for the occasion by pairing my "Meet Me Under the Mistletoe" tee with my flannel skirt.  Since both the tee and skirt were neutrals, I added my green cardigan, red bracelet, and red socks to bring in a little bit of Christmas, along with my plaid clutch. The socks were part of my "$10 at Target" finds.

If you're dressing for Christmas, you've got to have some bling!  I broke out my Kendra Scott earrings I ordered from Brandzaffair.  They're good for any outfit, but I especially loved them with this one.  I paired them with my bow necklace and my glittery Kate Spade watch.

Funny story about the shirt. . .when we took Kane to see Santa, I had to stand with Kane beside Santa because Kane is not a fan.  Anyways, Santa read my shirt out loud and then said, "But it doesn't say what time." My response?  "Anytime, Santa, anytime."hahahaha

I am in love with these Jamberry nails in buffalo plaid that I got from my friend Becky!

Have you shopped with Brandzaffair yet?  I first tried it out back in late summer, and you can read all about that experience here. Brandzaffair is a fun, interactive shopping experience that helps you shop for good deals (which you know I love!).  When you go to the Brandzaffair website, you can choose to shop from a variety of retailers, including Nordstrom, Old Navy, and Target.  By clicking on a certain shop name, you can see a list of their latest deals, and then you can specifically shop the Brandzaffair Bargains, which are all 30%+ off.  You can even search the Brandzaffair Bargains for specific items like "pants" or "Kate Spade".  It's so easy and so much fun!  You can also use the site's interactive feature to shop with friends.  I love it!!!

This time around, I got the Kendra Scott Dani earrings in Navy.  I tried the Lee version of the earrings, but they were just too small for me as I felt like they just got lost in my hair.

If you check out Brandzaffair, be sure to let me know in the comments below what you think!

$10 at Target--Christmas Edition

I used to hate Target.  Crazy, I know.  Don't worry--I came to my senses a few years ago and Target and I have lived happily ever after ever since.  I buy a lot of clothes there for myself and Kane, decorate my home with their furnishings, and generally just spend my money there like it's going out of style.

So when Becky from BYBMG started doing a $10 at Target series, I was all in. It reminds me of when I was little and my Papaw would give me $5 to spend at the dollar store or local thrift store every Saturday.  I spend $10 at Target several times a week (or multiple times over in one trip). Now, Becky has a $10 limit that includes sales tax, but for the purposes of my post, we're excluding sales tax.

For my first 1st $10 at Target, I thought it'd be nice to do a Christmas theme.  All of my items came from Bullseye's Playground (formerly the One Spot).  I always love to shop this section because they have the cutest items for cheap!  It's great for putting together little gifts, and I usually get most of Kane's stocking stuffers from there.

Merry Christmas sign - $3
Buffalo plaid kids bow tie - $3
Socks - $1each, $2 total
Adorable festive straws - $1
Cookies for Santa plate (not pictured) - $1
GRAND TOTAL : $10

I tend not to spend a lot of money on holiday decorations, so I love picking up little things like this sign which is such a good deal.  It reminds me of a more old-fashioned Christmas since it's tin on the front and wood in the back.

The buffalo plaid items are pretty self-explanatory for those of you who have been around the blog for a while. As someone who usually buys their bowties off of Etsy, I was really pleased with the quality of this one.  Kane will look so handsome in it! I wore the socks for my last holiday-inspired outfit post which will be up tomorrow.  And I just had to grab the reindeer socks too.

The straws would be adorable for a holiday party or photoshoot.  I completely forgot to take a picture of the Santa plate:( Fail on my part.

So what else can $10 get you at Target?  Check out everyone's post below to see what they found!

High Five for Friday 12.18.15 : Homestretch to Christmas

TGIF, H54F-ers!!! Caitlin at Coffee with CaitlinDella at Della Devoted, Katie at Cup of Tea, and myself want to welcome you to the link-up and the weekend.  We made it!!!

Announcement: the link-up will be taking a break on next Friday since it's Christmas Day. We'll return on the next Friday, which is New Year's Day with a 2-week recap:)  We hope everyone has a Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!!!

This week's featured blogger is Tabitha from A Hundred Tiny Wishes.  A Hundred Tiny Wishes is a lifestyle blog.  Tabitha just shared a roundup of her favorite Christmas cookies and candies, and I loved her post about 20 things she learned in her twenties (she just turned 30).  She also has a pretty cute Etsy shop featuring decorated glassware and jewelry that you should check out!

Now let's recap the highlights of the week:

1. Market 301 Holiday Edition was last Friday, and I was able to pick up several gifts there, including handmade ornaments and a special something for Chauncey.  How cute is Sunday Fashioner's booth? I'm dying for one of those plaid pillows!!! Lacy, the shop owner, is taking a short break for the holidays, but you can sign-up to get a notification when the shop reopens.

2. On Saturday, my mom and mother-in-law came down for the weekend.  We all went out to Chuy's to eat, and then they headed home with Kane while Chauncey went to a friend's house to watch UFC and I hit up the mall.  I had a bunch of little errands to run.  I also had to spend my Sephora Beauty Insider $15 off $50 coupon because it was expiring (too good of a deal to pass up).  It's always fun to experiment in Sephora.  I was really disappointed that they were booked up on makeovers, though, because I always like to see what other people think I should be wearing makeup-wise.

3. Chauncey and I headed up to the Bengals v. Steelers game on Sunday with some friends that are Bengals fans.  This is a yearly tradition for us. It was an awesome game because THE STEELERS WON!!!! Um, and I got to eat stadium nachos and cheese. Yum:)

4. While at Market 301, I stumbled across a new seller, C Buxton Art. I fell in love with this big flamingo print, but they were sold out by the time I went back to pick it up.  So Christina dropped one off at my office, along with both of her collections of desk prints (each collection contains quite a few small prints)!  All of her work is awesome, and I look forward to include these items in the gallery wall I'm working on.  Thanks, Christina!

5. I got my Christmas cards in on Wednesday and back out in the mail yesterday!  And I finally got some presence wrapped and a little bit of decorations on my tree.  Now, if I can just finish everything up this weekend. . .

Also, I wanted to share my top holiday traditions:

1. Hearing the Christmas story.

2. Opening gifts at the edge of dark on Christmas Eve--so much anticipation growing up!  Now that we have Kane, we started the tradition last year of opening gifts at our house on December 23 so that we could have time with just our little family.  And we'll have several family get-togethers that I always look forward to.

3. Watching Christmas movies--this includes a Charlie Brown Christmas, Rudolph, Frosty, and the Grinch.  Confession: I hate A Christmas Story.  There, I said it.

4. Chauncey and my mamaw always used to wrap each other a gift that was next to impossible to open.  It was always funny seeing them try to open their gifts.  I really miss this.

5. Seeing the lights!  There's a house we always go see off of Chinoe here in Lex, and I love just driving around seeing how people have decorated.

6. Taking Kane to see Santa.  This year we added Hillenmeyer's Christmas Shop into our rotation.

7. Listening to Christmas carols.

And ICYMI, here's this week's posts:

Need a little outfit for the holidays?  I'm sharing my Merry & Bright outfit featuring a not-so-ugly Christmas sweater, tulle, and plaid.  If graphic tees and pants are more your thing, you can check out my other holiday outfit idea here.

Last Minute Christmas Prep & Some Extra Holiday Cheer

Am I the only one not completely ready for Christmas???  No?  Ok, good.  I didn't think so.  The countdown is on, so I wanted to share my little checklist for last minute Christmas prep.  And since being tight on time can sometimes make you feel like a Scrooge, I'm sharing some of my friend's holiday posts to spread some extra holiday cheer (and possibly give you some inspiration to finish your holiday prep).

*LAST MINUTE HOLIDAY PREP CHECKLIST*

1. Finish trimming the tree.  With a toddler on the loose, I save this for as long as possible.  I'm going to finish decorating my tree by tomorrow night.  Don't want to put ornaments on your tree?  Put a big ribbon bow on top and let 6-8 ribbon tails fall around the tree.

2. Send out your Christmas cards. Done. Popped those bad boys in the mail earlier today.  Don't even have Christmas cards yet??? Walmart has some cute options that you can design online and pickup in store the same day!

3. Wrap your gifts + check your list twice. Sort through your gifts.  Check it against your Christmas list and make sure you have something for everyone on it.   Then, read through your list to see if you left anyone off or need to pick up an extra item or two.  DO THIS NOW. You do NOT want to have to run to the store next week.  Many stores are offering free shipping with delivery by December 24 so long as you order by this Monday, December 21! Wrap everything.  If you hate wrapping, check your local dollar stores for cheap giftbags and some tissue paper.

And if you're gift just isn't going to make it on time, print off a picture of the gift and wrap that instead!

4. Don't forget the Christmas traditions.  Do your kids or pets take a pic with Santa every year?  Do you make sure to watch a Charlie Brown Christmas, Rudolph, or Frosty every year? Make a list of the Christmas traditions you want to make sure to still get in, and then set about completing them. Figure out where Santa is going to be at, and search the program guide to see when you can catch your favorite Christmas movies.  Better yet, go ahead and set them to record in case you happen to be busy or away from home when they come on.

5. Pack for any travel. Travel is always hectic, but especially so around the holidays.  Go ahead and pack now.  Make sure to pack any special outfits you want to wear for the holidays first, and then add in everything else.  That way you're less likely to forget the things you want the most.

6. Buy an ornament for this year. I actually forgot to do this last year, and haven't bought one yet for this year, so this is on my list for this weekend.

Now, for some extra holiday cheer/inspiration from my blogging buddies:

- Della has whipped up a recipe for gingerbread dip.
- For the Instagrammers, Becky shares these cute Instagram gift tags.
- Katie has a hilarious post titled, "The Annual Christmas Outdoor Light Tragedy."
- Caitlin has a DIY Christmas for the Women roundup.

- Whitney has a pretty red and green Christmas tablescape idea.

- Keri has an easy last minute gift idea + printable gift tag to go with it.
- Ruthie has an inspirational post for moms trying to meet expectations this holiday season and shares 6 ways to plan your family traditions.
- Michelle gives us a peek at her ornaments.
- Valerie discusses patience at Christmas (but it applies to any time of the year).
- And some holiday decor from Elizabeth, Stasia, and Lauren!

Merry & Bright Christmas Outfit

This post contains affiliate links.
We are officially 10 days away from Christmas!!!  Is anyone else in shock, or is it just me???  Since Christmas is coming up and holiday events are in full swing, I wanted to share another festive look for the season!

First, let's talk about how gorgeous the setting is.  These photos were shot at Hillenmeyer Christmas Shop in Lexington. I have a full tour of our Hillenmeyer experience here.  The doors behind me totally look like they lead to Santa's reindeer barn, right?

I had seen this "Merry & Bright" shirt from American Eagle at my local Marshall's last month and really wanted it, because of course Bright on a Budget needs a Merry & Bright shirt (especially since it has sequins).  TJ Maxx in Lex didn't have it either.  I was bummed, but then my Instagram friend Terri came through!!!  She found it at her local store and sent it my way:) It is perfect with a plaid shirt underneath, and I paired it with my tulle skirt I found on clearance at Maurices for $7.50 earlier this year. It is great because it only has a little bit of tulle, making it easy for everyday and office wear.

Also, it wouldn't be a blog photo shoot without a weird, random hair flip. . .

Christmastime is a great time for some sparkly accessories (not that I don't wear them all year long)! My necklace and bracelet are from Purple Peridot, one of my favorite places to get accessories from. They are currently having a 30% sale using code GIFT30, and their IG states that everything will be in plenty of time for Christmas.  Oh, and if you like accessories, you can totally get a FREE month of Rocksbox by using code BRIGHTONABUDGETXOXO! Rocksbox is a subscription service that you can join for $19 a month (can cancel at any time), and they send you 3 pieces of jewelry in each box.  You can send your box back at any time to get a new one, and if you want to keep a piece from your box, you get a pretty awesome discount!  They have TONS of Kendra Scott pieces that you can add to your wishlist. I believe today is the lat day to get a box in time to wear for Christmas.

To top my outfit off, I threw on my favorite flannel plaid bag and my glittery Kate Spade watch.

And if you're shopping online to wrap up your Christmas shopping, remember to use Ebates! I've totalled over $600 cashback since I started using Ebates several years ago! It's a legitimate website that gives you cash back for your purchases from some of my favorite stores, including Target and Old Navy. You even get some just for signing up!  You can join now by clicking here.

TGIF, H54F-ers!!! Caitlin at Coffee with CaitlinDella at Della Devoted, Katie at Cup of Tea, and myself want to welcome you to the link-up and the weekend.  We made it!!!

This week's featured blogger is Bri at School in Our Slippers.  School in Our Slippers is a lifestyle blog that started out with a focus on homeschooling but has transitioned more into a blog about Bri's everyday life--being a mom to 3 kids, yummy recipes, and getting in shape after Baby #3.  She recently did a Secret Santa book reveal (her book looks very interesting) and she likes Charlie Brown:)

If you're in Lexington, be sure to stop by Market 301 this weekend! I'll be there tonight, so if you see me at the Kentucky Brewed Tees booth, say hi:)  And speaking of local shops, be sure to check out the giveaway mentioned below!

Now let's recap this week's highlights:

1. One of my best friends from law school was in town on Friday night, so we had dinner at the Cheesecake Factory.  We're both from eastern Kentucky, so we just connect.  It's always fun when we get together!

2. Kane and I played outside on Saturday and Sunday because the weather was GORGEOUS!  Kane especially loved rolling around in the leaves.  Shoutout to my neighbors for having such leafy trees!

High Five for Friday 12.04.15 : Date Nights and New Goodies

TGIF, H54F-ers!!! Caitlin at Coffee with CaitlinDella at Della Devoted, Katie at Cup of Tea, and myself want to welcome you to the link-up and the weekend.  We made it!!!

This week's featured blogger is Tanya from Prairie Girl in the Big, Scary World.  Tanya is a lifestyle blogger and I love how her little about under her picture sums it up: "Wife. Explorer. Crazy cat lady. A small town Saskatchewan girl traveling the world."  You know we love us some crazy cat ladies around here (and we're slowly working to get Katie to come over to the dark side).  She recently moved from NYC to Florida, and did her NYC Top 10 List.  For those of us still in cold weather, she shared a slow cooker beef stew recipe and a little bit about how her new life is.

Now let's recap this week's highlights:

To start things off, my brother turned 23 yesterday!!! I don't know where the time's gone. . .it seems like just yesterday I was 6 years old and looking forward to having a baby brother (I didn't know what I was getting into).  Happy birthday, Richard!

1. Chauncey and I had an honest-to-goodness date night on Saturday!!!  We ate at one of my favorite restaurants--Pig in a Poke in Prestonsburg, Kentucky:)  I had mozzarella cheesesticks and loaded fries minus the ranch dressing (ew).  It's so nice to have a night away sometimes to recharge.

2. My favorite Black Friday week purchase came in!  I purchased the Canon Rebel T5 kit with the regular lens and the zoom lens for $399, picked up the 50mm lens for $110 ($15 off), and added a one-year warranty including accidental drops (because 1. I like to drop things and 2. I have a toddler) for $40.  All-around win!  It was used to shoot both other blog posts this week, which I'll link at the bottom of this post in case you missed them. . .lots of holiday goodness!
