High Five for Friday 05.29.15

I took the past week off from blogging since I was in Vegas for part of it.  I intended to post on Wednesday, but it just wasn't in the cards.  I'm trying to catch up on comments and blog reading now.  I'd love if you'd leave me a link to you favorite post you wrote this week in the links below!  Also, Caitlin will be returning to the H54F line-up next week.

TGIF, H54F-ers!!! Caitlin at Coffee with Caitlin, Della at Della Devoted, Katie at Cup of Tea, and myself want to welcome you to the link-up and the weekend.  We made it!!!

This week's featured blogger is Abby from Always, Abby.  Abby is a 20-something blogger who, like all of us co-hosts, blogs about a little of everything--beauty, life, style, essential oils--you name it, she blogs about it:)  She recently did a Sugar Bash April Showers Box review (I really want to try the Wet Brush) and a round-up of her favorite eyeliners.  I recommend checking out both posts, of course!

Now to recap the week:

Oh, friends, it's been a long one.haha I need sleep, sleep, and more sleep!

1. Vegas was excellent, as always!  I'll be doing a recap of our trip in the next couple of weeks, along with at least 1 outfit post from my time there.  We flew home on a red eye Tuesday morning and I went straight into work.  BIG mistake--I'm still feeling sleep deprived, and have chosen to come home and relax in the evenings instead of blogging.  But I'm back at it now:)

By the way, does anyone notice what the major difference between this two pics is? #creeper  And sorry for the low image quality, but it was too funny not to share!

2. I love getting home and getting to see Kane!  Parenting is hard work, and sometimes we all need a getaway to be able to relax, but there's nothing like coming home to my sweet little boy after spending some time away. I brought him back a Grumpy Cat stuff animal as his souvenir:)

3. Essie nailed it with their Neons Collections for 2015!  I have only tried the blue shade, but it's a one coat wonder (OCW)!!! This mini 4-pack will set you back $17 if you purchase for full retail, but I purchased from eBay for much cheaper.  This link contains some different products in addition to the mini 4-pack, so please pay close attention to what you're purchasing. I also purchased the Chillato color from their regular summer collection.

4. I had to run to the mall to pick up a gift for a bridal shower/bachelorette party I'm attending this week, and I stopped by En-twine Boutique at the Fayette Mall.  It's a lovely, local shop that carries some goods by locals.  They were hosting a showing by Lela Ray Jewelry. I picked up these gorgeous earrings but she had tons of adorable items.  I hope you'll check her work out!

5. Since I've been running on steam this week, I made the best call I could have made about what I was having for dinner last night--the Cheesecake Factory.  More specifically, I had the Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Cheesecake for dinner. I shared some with Kane, and there's a little left over for breakfast today. Yum.

High Five for Friday 05.22.15

TGIF, H54F-ers!!! Caitlin at Coffee with Caitlin, Della at Della Devoted, Katie at Cup of Tea, and myself want to welcome you to the link-up and the weekend.  We made it!!!

This week's featured blogger is Whitney from Come Home for Comfort.  Whitney is a fellow UK fan (GO CATS!!!) and I've really enjoyed getting to know her since we started following each other quite some time ago.  She's got a little something for everyone--organization, DIY, style, recipes, and words of wisdom.  I love her recent tutorial on a DIY Patterned Tray--it's cheap + easy!  Oh, and she has 2 pretty awesome cats.  You know we love some cat ladies around here!

Now to recap the week:

I don't have a top 5 written up this week.  Let's be honest. . .I'm typing this sitting in an amazing hotel room (#6 on the list) in Vegas with 30 of my closest friends.  It's 5 a.m. EST Friday morning (2 a.m. here) and I haven't been to bed yet.  Needless to say, it's been a busy week preparing for vacation but as soon as I got on the plan, the week got a whole lot better:)  Be sure to follow along on Instagram to see the adventures!!!

That said, a H54F post would be very remiss if it didn't mention Kane:) I really enjoyed spending time with Kane before we left town.  I miss him already, but I know he's loving wreaking havoc back home with his grandparents.  I took him out to eat this week and he loved it.  He did not want to leave the play place.

I'm taking a break for the Memorial Day holiday, but a new post will be up next Wednesday!  And a true H54F post will follow that.

Don't forget to enter the $120 Target Giftcard giveaway!

Ipsy May Glam Bag + $120 Target Giftcard GIVEAWAY

OK, I seriously love the glam bags as much as I love the contents!!!  I find that they often end up storing more than just makeup and are in constant rotation in my purse and my workbag.    Even if I completely hated everything in my bag (which hasn't happened yet), I would still have the cute little pouch as a consolation prize.  The only consolation prize I ever got with Birchbox was a cardboard box.haha  Anyways, here's what was in my Ipsy Glam Bag this month:

1. ALTERNA HAIRCARE Caviar CC Cream
I haven't tried this yet, but I really can't wait to.  I'm excited to see how this does with my hair and I'll update this post as soon as I do try it.  Right now, I just don't have time for some bad hair days if it doesn't work out (because I only wash my hair every 3-4 days.  Usually 4).

2. URBAN DECAY 24/7 Glide on Lip Pencil + [bonus] Revolution High-Color Lipgloss
Lipgloss shades: Failbait (pinkish color) and Bittersweet (purplish color)
One of the reasons I was excited to switch to Ipsy was because Urban Decay products make the rounds in their bags, and I love the brand.  This lip pencil was no different.  It's like a primer for your lips.  It both conditions and provides staying power.  If you have a matte lip product that is drying our your lips, or a bold lip color that you want to stick around for a while, then I suggest trying out the lip pencil.  And the lipgloss was great too!  Lip products are one of 3 makeup products that I don't care to shell out a little money for, so I'll probably end up purchasing one of these.  Both colors are soooo pretty on, and the purple isn't as dark as it looks in the packaging! That said, the colors are buildable, so the dark purple shade is achievable!

3. BELLAPIERRE COSMETICS Waterprood Mineral Gel Eyeliner Pencil
Shade: Ebony
If you've been around the blog for a while, then you know how much I love gel pencil eyeliners! They're my absolute favorite for color payoff + ease of application.  This eyeliner is no different, but it's definitely more expensive than I like to pay at $14.99.

4. PETER LAMAS Detoxifying Citrus C Facial Cleanser
I try to wash my face twice per day.  I really like the citrus smell of this cleanser, and will probably use it in the mornings.  It lathers well, which I also like.  Otherwise, I really need to use it longer to see about the "detoxifying" claim.

5.  PIXI BY PETRA Beauty Bronzer
Shade: Summertime
Before contouring became big, I always discounted the value of a good bronzer.  Now that I contour, I love to try out different bronzers and highlighters.  This product is a great shade for fair-skin girls, and it lasted for most of the day.*
*Note: By the end of the day, I was too tired to check out my face in the mirror.  It was a llloooonnggg day.

For those of you who are on the fence about subscribing to Ipsy over Birchbox, you can read a little bit about why I chose to switch here.  I think Ipsy is better if you love makeup, while Birchbox is better if you like a mix of products (hair, beauty, etc.).

If you subscribe to Ipsy, what did you think about your March Glam Bag?  If don't but are interested in trying Ipsy, you can sign up through my referral link here

High Five for Friday 05.15.15

TGIF, H54F-ers!!! Caitlin at Coffee with Caitlin, Della at Della Devoted, Katie at Cup of Tea, and myself want to welcome you to the link-up and the weekend.  We made it!!!

This week's featured blogger is Brittany from Life as the Mrs., a lifestyle blog.   Brittany is a working momma with an adorable toddler boy.  She recently shared a round-up of his favorite toys.  She also likes the Duchess of Cambridge (who doesn't?!), and shared about how to get some of Kate's iconic looks for less

Now let's recap the week:

1. Friday kicked off Mother's Day weekend with some sweet gifts.  Chauncey sent me 2 dozen roses to work, and Kane came home from daycare with the most adorable gifts that I will cherish forever.

2. My brother graduated from college on Friday evening.  We went and cheered him on as he walked across the stage, and then went out to eat at his favorite Mexican restaurant afterwards. Just in case you were wondering, taking a toddler to a graduation service (or any other long event) isn't the best idea ever.haha  The bucket of snacks/toys just wasn't enough.

3. On Mother's Day, we spent the day with our families.  I am so fortunate to be blessed with Kane, and I hope he always knows how grateful I am to have him as my son:)  Also, being a mom definitely gives you a new appreciation for your own mom.

Yes, that's the same shirt from Monday's Office Wear post.
4. Monday I was on the road for work.  I was in my old stomping ground of Pikeville (where I went to undegrad) for the SOAR Summit.  SOAR is an initiative to help revitalize eastern Kentucky, and I'm very excited to be involved in it.  It was interesting to listen to the guest speakers, as well as the dialogue among attendees, all of whom want to see EKY thrive.  After the conference, I popped over to UPIKE's campus for an Alumni Association Board of Directors meeting.  My little college sure as changed in the 6 years since I graduated!

5. Naps.  There were several amazing naps this week. I wish I could fit them in more often! For me, a nap is one of the best treats ever!

How I Style It: The Maxi

Today I'm linking up with 5 of my blogging buddies for the 2nd "How I Style It" link-up!  This is a new monthly linkup where we all get together to show you how we style our favorite fashion trends, and invite you to join us in showing off your passion for fashion as well!
Bloggers: scroll to the end to get the details and link-up:)

This month, we're having a Maxed Out Maxi party!!!

It seems like maxis have been everywhere this past year, and while the midi is gaining traction, I don't see the maxi leaving anytime soon.  Maxi skirts/dresses are very comfortable and versatile. . .you can dress them up or dress them down.  Take this black maxi dress for example.  It's very basic, and a perfect a "blank canvas"to dress up or down.  I've chosen to add pops of color with my scarf and bag (no, I didn't have to sell my first born for either of them, but it was close.haha).

I chose a black maxi because I have big hips.  For us hippy girls, maxis can sometimes be unflattering because of how they lay.  I suggest trying a maxi dress in a solid color, and adding a scarf or statement necklace that draws the eye to your upper body.   I also found that a maxi dress works better for me than a maxi skirt.  If you're looking for a perfect maxi skirt, look for one with a foldover waistband that doesn't have a skinny piece of elastic in it.

Sometimes I prefer to wrap my scarves to look like an infinity scarf.  You can tie the ends together or you can just pop the ends up in the middle of the scarf, which is what I did here.  When I do this, I like to layer a long necklace with the scarf.

Maxi: Old Navy
Scarf: Lilly for Target, sold out (option*/option/in love with this option)
Necklace: Origami Owl
Tote: Lilly for Target, sold out (similar*)
Shoes: Target*
*Target is currently doing a sale where you get $10 off when
you spend $50 on clothing, shoes, and accessories

I'm traveling to Vegas later this month, and this would be great to wear on the plane.  It could also just as easily be a go-to for a day out with friends.

Be sure to stop by my co-hosts' blogs, as well as those linking up, and check out how they styled their maxis!!!

Office Wear for the Fashionable Lawyer

Today I'm teaming up with two fellow lawyers, Leeanne from LegalLee Blonde and Nina from The Law of Fashion, to show some office wear for the fashionable lawyer.  These ladies are fun, fabulous, and fashionable, so be sure to hop over to their blogs to check out their looks for today!

Now, as many of you know, I don't have a typical firm job.  I work as part of an in-house team for a family of affiliated companies.  So I don't have to wear suits to the office everyday.  If you follow along on my Instagram, you know I keep it fairly casual (but always fashionable).

That said, when I have to wear a suit, I prefer a classic black suit, with a twist.  I always like to brighten up the black with some pops of color.  Here, I've paired this washed-out neon blue top with the suit to give it more of a summer feel.  And I chose crop pants, because in Kentucky, it gets HOT in the summer.  We've already been in the mid-80s for the past week, so it's only going to get worse.

I love to cuff my sleeves on my blazer for a more fun look, and it matches the look of the cropped pants.

Let's talk about this bag for a minute.  This is a Jet Set Tote from Michael Kors (outlet).  I absolutely love this tote.  It has 3 compartments with a zippered middle compartment.  I like to stick my papers in one compartment, my Macbook Air in the other, and my personal effects in the zipper compartment.  It also has side pockets and inside pockets for organization. It's seriously the perfect combination for a handbag/work bag.

Blazer: Nine West (old; similar, $34.99)
Ankle pants: Merona, $27.99
Shirt: J. Crew Factory (check top of website for latest promo code)
Necklace: Origami Owl
Wedges: Payless (old; similar, on sale for $19.99)
Tote: Michael Kors Outlet via Clothes Mentor (similar)

Don't forget to head over to LegalLee Blonde and The Law of Fashion to see 2 more office wear looks for the fashionable lawyer:)

High Five for Friday 05.08.15

TGIF, H54F-ers!!! Caitlin at Coffee with Caitlin, Della at Della Devoted, Katie at Cup of Tea, and myself want to welcome you to the link-up and the weekend.  We made it!!!

This week's featured blogger is Candice from She's Leaning In, where she blogs about beauty, fashion, and design with some DIY thrown in.   Candice actually just started linking up with H54F, as in her H54F post from last week was her very 1st one for the linkup:)  Candice works full-time, but she also owns an independent yarn dyeing business!  If you're still looking for a great Mother's Day gift, she has a Mother's Day Gift Guide: Jewelry Shopping on Etsy post you should check out.  You can always order some jewelry and print a picture to slip in your mom's card to let her know what's on its way!

Now let's recap the week:

1. My sweet husband agreed to go outlet shopping with me on Sunday (if you know Chauncey, then you know how monumental this was)!  It was a beautiful day so we headed to the Outlet Shoppes of the Bluegrass.  Mommy confession--I totally bribed Kane with Great American Cookies when he had a meltdown because we wouldn't let him play in the fountain, and it worked.  Overall, we had a great time as a family and I found some really cute summer wardrobe updates, especially at J. Crew.

Dress: J. Crew Factory (check latest promo code at top of website)
Necklace: Walmart, $7 (in store)
Wallet: Kate Spade Saturday via TJ Maxx, $30
Flip-flops: Target, $15 + currently BOGO 50% off!
2. My parents came down last Friday.  Kane got to spend time with Nana and Pap while Chauncey and I went out to Malone's for dinner on Saturday.  We had a giftcard to use from our realtor, Fred Copeland, so we put it to good use.  It was revitalizing to have a meal out by ourselves!  You can actually take time to linger over a meal instead of rushing to eat.  And of course we had dessert!

3. I got into the home improvement mood this week. Lowes' had mulch 4/$10, so I picked some up.  Mulch is heavy and I am weak.  Lesson learned, but the mulch in the front of the house has been replinished.  I also got some paint for the guest bath.  It's a deep turquoise color from Valspar's historic colors selection called La Fonda Turquoise.  I'll share once it's finished, but let's be honest. . . I've got to finish taping off the bathroom before I can even get started!haha

4. This arrived!

Raffia tote: Lilly for Target in Boom Boom. Sold out.
5. Mother's Day is this weekend, and of course I've been reflecting on being a mother and the great mother figures in my life. I am so thankful that I have been given the opportunity to be Kane's mom. There's nothing better than curling up with him and watching Mickey Mouse to end my day.  We went out on a family date night on Wednesday night.  The weather was perfect so we sat out on the patio at Rafferty's.  Kane dropped his paci on the ground (at which point a meltdown usually ensues).  I said "Kane, it's okay.  We'll get it before we leave."  He said, "Okay," and grabbed his water to drink.  HUGE MILESTONE!

Kane trying to figure out the whole bat and ball thing.
HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!!!

Wardrobe Re-Wear : Pixie Pants

HEADS-UP: $125 Amazon giftcard giveaway at the end of this post!

As promised, here's the next installment of Wardrobe Re-Wear.  This time I'm featuring the Pixie Pants from Old Navy in Sky Caramba.  This is the chino style of Pixie Pant, and I'm really glad that I gave these pants a second try!  In all honesty, I was on the hunt for a pair of light blue pants, and I tried this on out of desperation.  I'm glad I did because I love them!  On a side note, light blue is my color this season!  Seriously.  I went outlet shopping yesterday, and both Chauncey and I were on a blue streak!  Hop on over to Instagram to see the light blue outfit I wore today:)

OUTFIT 1 : Date Night

For date night, I like to pair these pants with fun bright colors to contrast the pastel color of the pants.  When mixing neons and pastels, I think it's important to feature one (either neons or pastels) as your anchor color and the other as your accent color(s).  Also, mix in some summery white to really make the colors pop! If this outfit looks familiar, it's because I recently featured it a couple of weeks ago.  You can get full outfit details here.

Disclaimer: I totally wore this to the office too:)

OUTFIT 2 : Office Ready

To switch the outfit over for a more office-appropriate look, I swapped out the casual tee for a soft pastel shirt in a dressier material.  The matching soft pastels give the outfit an overall elegant look.  I also switched the shoes out for these shiny, pointy-toe flats from J. Crew Factory to carry through  the outfit's classy feel.

What's a girl to do when the sun's just not cooperating? Why, take the pictures anyways!haha
Shirt: Target, $24.99 (same color unavailable online,
but currently BOGO 50% off)
Pants: Old Navy
Necklace: Ebay (this one is $8)
Shoes: J. Crew Factory (similar--always check the top of the
Factory
website for the latest promo code)
Bangle: Salem Swank (similar, only $12!)

I'm linking up with the girls at Tuesday Talk and Rachel at Garay Treasurers for Bloggers Who Inspire Me.
