Guest Posting : Beach Day Essentials

Happy Monday, folks!  Today I'm guest posting over at The Sequin Notebook about Beach Day Essentials.  Head on over to their blog to check out what are my fun + fashionable must-haves for a day at the beach or by the pool.  Of course, there are some fantastic items at awesome price points:)

While you're there, be sure to hang around and browse a little bit.  B and M are some of my favorite bloggers that I got to know through the High Five for Friday linkup wayyyyy before I was a co-hosts! The gals know how to have fun, and that's evident through their posts.  They're still H54F regulars, know their way around a mixed drink (like this fun Flaming Peeptini), and are best friends.  I love their blog and I know you will too!!!

High Five for Friday 06.26.15

TGIF, H54F-ers!!! Caitlin at Coffee with Caitlin, Della at Della Devoted, Katie at Cup of Tea, and myself want to welcome you to the link-up and the weekend.  We made it!!!

This week's featured blogger is Laura from Snippets & Snapshots.  Laura is from across the pond. She is a lifestyle blogger who started out by taking a picture a day everyday for a full year.  She did a post recently about her "reverse bucket list" and I found it to be an interesting approach.

Now, let's recap the week:

1.  We celebrated Father's Day in a very low-key way, and it was so nice!  This was the 1st weekend I'd been home in Lex for over a month and a half.  Chauncey loved his gifts, which were new bourbon glasses, a Liquor Barn giftcard, and a Game of Thrones toy-thingy.  We did dinner out at Joe B's in downtown Lexington that night.  Kane was wild [per usual] so this was the best pic we got. My husband is a wonderful daddy to Kane, so it's nice to have a day to celebrate that.

And it was National Wear Your Lilly Day! You can see a full recap of my outfit and accessories here.

2. Let's talk about the Kate Spade sale.  So, I have been stalking the "Beware of Sharks" tote for a while now, waiting for it to go on sale.  But once it went on sale, I notice there was a pouch/clutch that had the same design and it was love at 1st sight.  I decided  to get the clutch instead of the tote, but was waiting to purchase because I knew that the extra 25% off sale items happens pretty frequently.  I waited and I stalked.  I looked at it Monday night, and still no sale.  I looked at it Tuesday at lunch, and not only had the sale hit, but my clutch was sold out. . .I quickly called Kate Spade customer care, and they were able to locate one at their Chicago Oak Street store for me, which was shipped for free.

I did order these earrings off of the website, which came in the mail today.  I have them in silver and have often wished for a gold pair.  They were $19 + 25% off when I ordered them on Tuesday. They've now jumped up to $25 = 25% off:(

You can check out the sale here, and use code SETSALE for the additional 25% off of sale items through July 7.

3. Since I was home for the weekend, I did alot of cleaning, organizing, and decluttering!  It felt amazing.  Clutter is such a source of stress for me but I'm a messy person by nature.  It's a catch-22.

4. Kane loves the cats.  This is him and Giz having a heart-to-heart on the stairs this morning.  He's also started counting the stairs as he goes down them.

5. Tina from Go Big or Go Home and I organized a Lexington bloggers meet-up for this past Thursday.  Tina is a H54F regular, so when we found out we lived in the same place, of course we had to meet up!  Her friend Amy, who also links up, came and brought her adorable baby Poppy. Alexis and Courtney, whom I met at the Dillard's Fayette Mall event a couple of months ago, also attended.  Several people couldn't make it, but we're hoping to turn this into a bi-weekly meetup.  If you're a blogger who lives in the Lexington, KY (or surrounding area), let us know!  We'd love to meet you!

I hope you've had a wonderful week!

June Ipsy Glam Bag Review

love mail days.  I especially love mail days when there is a little pink package in my mailbox signaling that my latest Ipsy bag has arrived!  Heck, even my mom has jumped on the Ipsy bandwagon at this point.  I'm hoping we'll be able to do some sample swapping sometimes:)

The theme for June's bag was "Swim into Beauty."  The bag is made out of neoprene (or similar material) and will great great to toss into your tote for a day at the pool or at the beach.  Part of why I love Ipsy so much is how usuable the glam bags actually are!

Here's what was in my glam bag this month:

1. BEFINE Cucumber Facial Mask
Truth be told, I'm not much of a face mask type of girl.  I tried this out in the shower, but didn't see any noticeable improvements to my skin after 1 use.  I may continue to use it, or it may lay around in a drawer forever.

2. NUXE Gentle Exfoliating Gel
As much as I'm not a face mask fan, I love a good exfoliator.  I have a lot of issues with dry skin, which is terrible for a makeup base.  This exfoliator is different because it uses rose petals in its formula as the exfoliant.  It was much less gritty than what I'm used to, which made me feel like it was more gentle on my skin while still getting the job done.

3. J. CAT BEAUTY Lipitude Hydrating Lip Stain
Shade: Blow Your Mind
Lip stains also fall into my disfavored category.  I hate them because they really tend to dry out my lips, which feels terrible.  This one intrigued me since it claimed to be "hydrating."  When I tried it out, I was pleasantly surprised that it actually did what it claimed to do.  The color payoff was good, but I also had some slight issues with color transfer.

4. TRE'STIQUE Mini Shadow Crayon
Shade: Marimoto Pink Pearl
First, how adorable is this product since it looks like an actual crayon???  I'm a sucker for little items like this.  It's the perfect size if you like to take your makeup with you when you're on the go.  This shade is perfect to give your lids/crease some color when you're going for a quick and easy makeup look.  I'd love to try out the other shades in this product!

5. SMASHBOX COSMETICS Photo Finish Foundation Primer
MAKEUP BAG STAPLE ALERT!  I already use this product daily.  This primer feels so good when you put it on your face.  It's so smooth and makes my foundation last throughout the day.  If you've been searching for a good primer, then you should really check this one out!  I'm glad I now have a tiny size of it to stick in my bag when I travel!

Overall, I'm chalking this month's bag up as a winner, although I'm disappointed that I haven't received the little Too Faced Melted lipstick sample.  Come on, Ipsy, help a subscriber out;)

For those of you who are on the fence about subscribing to Ipsy over Birchbox, you can read a little bit about why I chose to switch here.  I think Ipsy is better if you love makeup, while Birchbox is better if you like a mix of products (hair, beauty, etc.).

National Wear Your Lilly Day Recap-- See Ya Later Shift

First off, I hope that everyone had a great Father's Day yesterday!  We had an overall relaxing day at my house, and took Chauncey out to eat at one of our favorite Lexington restaurants, Joe B's. Yesterday was also the 1st [official] Day of Summer and National Wear Your Lilly Day!  Today Della from Della Devoted and I are showing off our See Ya Later shift dresses in celebration of NWYLD!

I honestly didn't become a Lilly Pulitzer fan until last year after I started blogging and following other bloggers on Instagram.  While the brand can be pricey, I love the patterns, colors, and overall cheerfulness of the brand.  To make my purchases more affordable, I usually shop my local Clothes Mentor here in Lexington, which is where I scored my 1st Lilly item, a State of Mind skirt.  I also shop Lilly's After Party Sales.  These are twice-yearly sales that occur in January and July of each year, but you have to be on the website at 8 a.m. because the good stuff sells out quickly.  And finally, I search the #buymylilly hashtag on Instagram.  It's a great to find Lilly at reasonable prices (but not all prices will be reasonable, especially if they're for a holy grail item).

The dress I'm wearing today, as well as the bracelet and the tote, are from the Lilly for Target line.  I can't believe I haven't shot an outfit post with this shift dress yet!  I was excited to shop L4T because everything was so affordable, but it turned out to be an eBay shark's dream.  Luckily, I was able to score most of the items I wanted.  I only missed out in the My Fans shift dress (if anyone has one they'd like to get rid of in my size, let me know).  My McKim sandals were a Christmas gift from my sweet hubby, and the Red Right Return sunglasses case was purchased off of @xxlillyworld on Instagram.

Dress: Lilly for Target (sold out & I refuse to link to eBay; option 1; option 2)
Sandals: Lilly Pulitzer (similarsimilar but less expensive)
Tote: Lilly for Target (sold out; similar- BOGO 50% off)
Sunglasses: Target (BOGO 50% off)
Sunglasses case: Lilly Pulitzer (sold out; available on eBay)
Necklace: Purple Peridot (similar--only $2.95!!!)
Bracelet: Lilly for Target (similar; similar)

Don't forget to stop by Della Devoted to see how Della styled her See Ya Later shift!!!  Did you wear Lilly for NWYLD???

High Five for Friday 06.19.15

TGIF, H54F-ers!!! Caitlin at Coffee with Caitlin, Della at Della Devoted, Katie at Cup of Tea, and myself want to welcome you to the link-up and the weekend.  We made it!!!

This week's featured blogger is Jess from To Sparkle Punch.

Jess is a lifestyle blogger who mixes in a bit of fashion along the way.  She tells a little bit about her inspiring story and explains the meaning behind her blog name here.  I really enjoyed her post showing this romper she scored for $11. Oh, and she's showing signs of turning into a cat lady:)  Speaking of which, the following comments took place on her H54F post last week:

Now, let's recap the highlights of my week:

1. Chauncey and I celebrated SIX years of marriage on Saturday!  I was in a wedding on our anniversary and didn't get home until after the day was over, but we went out on a real date to Malone's the next evening while my brother and his girlfriend watched Kane.  Chauncey picked me up some crazy daisies, which are some of my favorite flowers:)

2. One of my best friends from law school, Ashley, got married!  I've gotten to see her and her hubby's relationship bloom from the beginning, and it was exciting to watch them tie the knot! Ashley was an absolutely gorgeous bride!  I pray they have a long, wonderful, and happy marriage:)

3. Chauncey took this week off of work, so we were able to meet for lunch on Wednesday (and hopefully today as well!).  When I was in law school and working downtown, I was closer to his office and we had lunch once or twice a week.  I miss that, so meeting for lunch this week is a nice break to the work day.

4. I bought my 1st $5 drink at Starbucks, and it was amazing.  I never buy from Starbucks because they're just too expensive, but I really wanted to try the new cupcake frappuccino.  I highly recommend it.  It's definitely not something I would buy all the time, but it was a nice treat, especially when I'd had to sit through a CLE all morning with no breakfast.

5.  Early this week, I announced on Bright on a Budget's Facebook page that Bright on a Budget is now listed in the Her Kentucky Blog Directory!!!  HerKentucky is a destination site for the "modern Kentucky woman." There are tons of great Kentucky bloggers listed on the directory, and I'm honored to be on it.
Oh, and Kane has been hilarious this week.  Since he moved up to the next classroom, his vocabulary is just exploding.  Chauncey and I have been cracking up all week as he says new phrases.

To wrap up, here's this week's posts in case you missed them:

RBX Active Capri Leggings

Sponsored post: I was provided these capris by RBX Active in exchange for an honest review.  All opinions are my own.

Let's be honest.  I don't really workout.  I'm currently trying to get into a more active routine, but it's hard to find time to dedicate to working out.  So I'm trying to be more active by getting out and moving around the neighborhood.  I really enjoy taking walks with Kane and exploring our surrounding area.  The walks usually consist of me pushing him around in his little Flintstone car, but sometimes he'll get out and walk too. . .which then usually turns into me chasing him down.haha #mommylife  As I'm walking, I like to keep my phone on me because it counts my steps and lets me know how far I've walked. I feel more accomplished when I see the #s on the screen.

RBX Active sent me these activewear capris to try out.  Now, I've been a dedicated fan of another line of yoga pants and capris for years, so I always hesitate to try another brand.  These, however, were awesome!  They're lightweight and the material is sooo comfy.  It's also moisture-wicking, which my thighs love (because we're being honest here).  The pattern is fun and pairs well with a solid tee.  And my favorite thing about these capris?  They don't cut into my hips.  The lines are pretty smooth overall.  All around win!

You can also check out the rest of RBX's Power Collection here.

RBX is currently offering a 25% discount for the site when you use code ACTIVE25 good through 07/31/15.  Free shipping will be added for purchases over $50 (purchase must be over $50 after coupon deduction).

On a side note, my New Balance tennis shoes from J. Crew came in and I love them!  I'm so happy I was able to snag them at such a deeply discounted price (story here).

Kentucky Brewed Tees + Instagram Giveaway

Sponsored post: We were provided these shirts by Kentucky Brewed Tees.  All opinions are our own, and mine is that this campaign is pretty awesome.

I'm teaming up with some of my favorite blogging girls for today's post-- Becky from BYBMG, Courtney from The Bourbon Soaked Mom, and Jill from Doused in Pink.  We're all spreading the love with these tees, so make sure to check out how they styled theirs.  Courtney's post will actually be up tomorrow due to some a last-minute issue.

Kentucky Brewed Tees ("KBT") is an awesome company from Paintsville, Kentucky, just 20 minutes away from my hometown.  I love to see people from eastern Kentucky doing great things:)  It's a small custom screenprinting company with a focus on quality.  They produce some fabulous Kentucky tees, as well as fun and inspirational shirts like the one I'm wearing below.

The tee I'm wearing is part of their "Love More, Hate Less" campaign, which is pretty cool.  When you order one of the "Love More, Hate Less" tees, you get one free, but there's a catch!  KBT wants you to take the second shirt and give it to someone who needs love--family, friend, or complete stranger.  Now, I think we could all use more love, and that's why I think this is an excellent campaign.  It's such an easy way to make someone's day:)

Oh, and if, like me, you like freebies, head on over to KBT's website for a free "Love Never Fails" wallpaper for your iPhone or iPad!

Details
Shirt: Kentucky Brewed Tees ($20 for 2)
Shorts: Lilly for Target (sold out; similar only $17.15)
Wristlet: Lilly Pulitzer (similar)
Shoes: Lilly Pulitzer (similar; similar but less expensive)
Necklace: Ebay (less than $10)

To wrap up this post, I have three things to address: 1. Yes, I have a spray tan.  Long story short, I was a bridesmaid in a wedding this weekend:)  2. Yes, I risked life and limb to lay hands on those Lilly for Target shorts.  3. Yes, this is one of the most comfortable tees I've ever owned!

Don't forget to check out the other bloggers' posts, and head on over to Instagram--we've giving away 2 of these shirts to 1 lucky winner!!!

High Five for Friday 06.12.15

TGIF, H54F-ers!!! Caitlin at Coffee with Caitlin, Della at Della Devoted, Katie at Cup of Tea, and myself want to welcome you to the link-up and the weekend.  We made it!!!

This week's featured blogger is my blogging buddy Kat from Lemonade Linings!  And, like many other of my buddies, I met Kat through my favorite linkup many moons ago:) Kat and I actually just missed each other in Vegas. . .she flew home earlier in the day than I arrived.  Kat is a freelance writer, and she has the most adorable doggie named Bert. She posts on a range of topics similar to what I do, and she includes lots of professional advice that's applicable across the board.  She just did a "professionally casual" outfit post that I love, since that's how I dress most of the time (thank you for a name to go with it, Kat!).  Anyways, be sure to check out her blog and say hi!

Now, let's recap the highlights of my week:

1. Kane had his 2nd birthday party on Saturday. I took cupcakes for his daycare class on Friday since we had his party back home in eastern Kentucky.  It was held at the Fun Zone at the local community center and he SUCH a good time.  He played non-stop with his friends the entire time.  He is a little daredevil and was going all the way to the top of the playplace and sliding down.  This momma is going to have her hands full.haha  The theme was farm animals and it turned out really, really cute!

2. Kane's actual birthday was Sunday.  We came back home to Lexington and took him to dinner at Rooster's.  Then we came home and he rode his new balance bike with his little Mickey helmet that he did NOT want to take off.  The day was finished off with his favorite Ice Age movie.  Turning 2 was a huge success!!!

3. After we moved, I received a book that had a coupon for a free haircut, blowout, and gel manicure from Posh Salon here in Lexington.   I can't make it back to my regular stylist (love you, Ginger!) for my in-between trims, so I decided to take advantage of the coupon this week.  Both my hair and my nails turned out great.  While I can't remember the name of the girl who did my nails, Janna did my hair and I highly recommend her. She listened to what I had to say and kept it to a trim:)  Bonus--my nails are now done for the wedding I'm in this weekend, for free.

4. I put all of my CLE (continuing legal education) credits off until the last minute this year, so I had to set through 2 full days of classes.  The upside to all that is that they were held downtown, so I was able to hit up some yummy lunch places.  I'd especially been wanting to try Pies & Pints for a while, and it was just as delicious as I had hoped it would be!  Plus, it had an all-around great vibe.  Check it out if you're in downtown Lex sometime.

 5. Favorite outfit of the week:

How I Style It : the Basic Tee

Today I'm linking up with 5 of my blogging buddies for the 3rd installment of our "How I Style It" link-up!  This is a new monthly linkup where we all get together to show you how we style our favorite fashion trends, and invite you to join us in showing off your passion for fashion as well!
Bloggers: scroll to the end to get the details and link-up:)

This month, we're styling basic tees for some #teedupstyle!  Grab the button and the hashtag to join in on the fun:)

1st PROCLAMATION: I am a basic tee kinda girl.  Seriously.  A basic tee is the most versatile piece of clothing you can ownDid I emphasize that enough? You can dress them up or dress them down.  You can wear them with some jorts*, dress them up with a frilly skirt, or date night it with some cute jeans.  The possibilities are endless.  *NOTE: Jorts are jean shorts.  Once considered highly unfashionable, they're back in style, and the more ripped, the better.  My dad would disagree that they were ever out of fashion.  Jorts is also the nickname of a former UK Wildcat. GO CATS!

I love this tee because of the embroidered pineapples on the pocket.  I've had it since last summer and it's going to be on heavy rotation once again.  When looking to expand your basic tee collection, always look for some fun details (like the pineapples) to make the look more intentional.  I popped it on over these destroyed boyfriend jean shorts from Target.  The denim of these shorts is excellent quality, especially for the price.  These are the shorter length, but they also come in the 5" variety as well.

When I wear a basic tee, I like to think of it as a blank canvas to dress up.  Here, I paired it with a tassel necklace (spot on for summer!), a straw clutch, and glitter sandals.  I also like pairing sparkly statement pieces with basic tees to draw the focus to the accessories.

Tee: J. Crew Factory (old; pineapple option. fun option)
Necklace: Purple Peridot
Jorts: Target (5"option--both currently BOGO 50% off)
Sandals: Target
Details for the clutch, a similar necklace in neon pink, and similar sunnies
can be found here (post of Summer Wardrobe Splashes under $20!)

Ok, who else always tries to stand on their toes when getting a shoe shot, even if you're in sandals?  Guilty party right here!
2nd PROCLAMATION: That, my friends, was a good hair day.

You can see some of the other ways I've styled the basic tee here, here, here, and here

Be sure to stop by my co-hosts' blogs, as well as those linking up, and check out how they styled their basic tees!!!
