High Five for Friday 07.31.15

TGIF, H54F-ers!!! Caitlin at Coffee with Caitlin*, Della at Della Devoted, Katie at Cup of Tea, and myself want to welcome you to the link-up and the weekend.  We made it!!! But can someone please tell me how we're already at the END of July?  One thing to celebrate about it is that our co-host Katie's birthday is today!  Be sure to stop by with birthday wishes!!!

*Caitlin at Coffee with Caitlin is on a short hiatus from co-hosting, but she'll be hosting periodically still, like today!  As soon as she returns full-time, we'll be sure to let you know!

This week's featured blogger is Ashley from Life on the Parsons Farm.  Ashley is a lifestyle blogger with an adorable daughter.  She shares about both her infertility and adoption journeys, and I find her openness to be inspiring.  Like Katie, she posts a weekly menu of sorts.  She also has some cute ideas regarding her upcoming home improvements.

Now let's recap this week's highlights:

1. My 10 YEAR High School Reunion was on Friday night.  Once again, where does the time go?! Here's a H54F fun fact for you: how many of you all know that Della and I graduated from high school together?  We're from a small town in eastern Kentucky, and we had a small, close-knit class.  The turnout was decent, and we literally danced the night away.  I was such a hot mess of sweat by the time we left (sidenote: I don't like sweating.haha).  Everyone looked pretty good for 10 years out, if I do say so myself!

2. Since I was back home, Della and I decided to take the boys to watch the new Minion movie.  It was both Kane and Raylan's 1st movie.  We all had fun.  The great thing about being in a small-town is that we were the only people at the matinee, since it wasn't the movie's 1st weekend out.  It made the experience must less stressful as we didn't have to worry about disturbing other viewers.

3. I drove 6 hours roundtrip to Columbus, OH to pick up my new iconic fashion accessory this weekend!  I found an authentic Louis Vuitton Speedy 25 manufactured in September 2014 that came with lock and key, dustbag, box, and papers for less than 50% of retail!!!  Of course I was driving to get it.haha  I'm in love.  The picture below is a snapshot from yesterday's post--you can see the full outfit here.

4. Here's another H54F fun fact for you. . .do you know who lives in Columbus???  Caitlin!  While Caitlin and I have been blogging buddies for a while before we became H54F co-hosts, we had never met in real life!  So of course we took the opportunity to meet up.  We had a late lunch/early dinner at a little pub called the Old Bag of Nails.  The pub was a fun location, in the middle of a gorgeous little town in a suburb of the city.  We had such a fun time catching up:)

5. Kane has stayed back in eastern Kentucky this week, so Chauncey and I have taken advantage of our time alone with a couple of date nights.  We went out to Pies and Pints on Monday night, then headed out to Old Bourbon County Kitchen (OBC) on Wednesday night. Both were fun dining out experiences.

By the way, I'm currently taking part in a giveaway to celebrate Della's 1 Year Blogiversary!!!  We've teamed up with some of our friends to give away a $60 Target giftcard.  You can get all the details and enter here.

Chambray + White Denim

Kane is spending the week with our family in eastern Kentucky, so Chauncey and I have gotten to have a couple of date nights. Last night headed out to Old Bourbon County Kitchen, or OBC as it's known locally.  I slipped in a quick outfit shoot even though the clouds were looking quite ominous.

I searched for forever before I found the perfect chambray shirt from J. Crew last year.  It has became a wardrobe staple.  There is no limit to what I will pair this shirt with--you can dress it up or dress it down, and it works.  While I shy away from pairing it with regular jeans, I've really became a fan of pairing it with white denim.  The jeans I have on are a throwback to my law school days.  I'd put them in storage for a couple of years due to the wider leg, but now they're back in rotation as the wide leg is making a fashion return.

Pants: NY & Company (similar--on sale!!!)
Sandals: Hot Cakes via The Lilly Pad Company
Necklace: Origami Owl
Purse: Louis Vuitton via Clothes Mentor Westerville

I chose to keep my accessories simple.  I added my Origami Owl necklace (another staple), my black sandals (I also wore them here), and my new (to me) Louis Vuitton Speedy 25!!!  The Speedy was the accessory I talked about in last week's H54F post.  I drove 3 hours to Columbus, OH, and 3 hours back, to get this baby from Clothes Mentor in Westerville because they wouldn't ship.  It is less than a year old, in perfect condition, and came with the lock, key, dustbag, box, and papers.  You know I got a good deal on it:)

As it gets cooler, I'll keep giving this outfit mileage by swapping my sandals for flats.

Now for the good stuff!!!  My sweet friend and H54F co-host Della is celebrating her 1 year blogiversary at Della Devoted!  To help celebrate, I've team up with her,  Becky from BYBMG, Brenda from Chatting Over Chocolate, Rachel from Garay Treasures, and Jill from Doused in Pink to giveaway a $60 Target giftcard!!!  Enter below.

Guest Posting: What to Grab When You Leave Your Makeup Behind

Today I'm guest posting over at Della Devoted about What to Grab When You Leave Your Makeup Bag Behind.  We've all been in the position where we've left some (if not all) of our makeup at home when we're traveling. I'm sharing the 4 items you should run to Walmart and buy.  These products give you a complete look without breaking the bank!

While you're there, be sure to browse Della's blog!  Della is a childhood friend of mine (we just attended our 10 year high school reunion) and a fellow High Five for Friday co-host.  She's a lifestyle blogger blogging about toddler life, beauty, fashion, and faith.

High Five for Friday 07.24.15

TGIF, H54F-ers!!! Caitlin at Coffee with CaitlinDella at Della Devoted, Katie at Cup of Tea, and myself* want to welcome you to the link-up and the weekend.  We made it!!!

*Caitlin at Coffee with Caitlin is on a short hiatus from co-hosting, but she'll be hosting periodically still.  As soon as she returns full-time, we'll be sure to let you know!

This week's featured blogger is Kate from Classy Living.  She's a Jersey-girl who teaches elementary school, lives a gluten-free life, and teaches zumba!  Kate's a lifestyle blogger, and her recap from last weekend features a heartwarming share about her grandma.  And #5 on her H54F post from last week had me laughing hard!

Now let's review the highlights of my week:

1. I found an awesome deal on an iconic fashion accessory.  It's been #1 on my MUST HAVE List for years.  I'm even driving 3 hours each way to go pick it up.  As soon as I have it in my possession, there will be a post to Instagram, and an introduction on the blog to follow next week [insert squeal].

2. I met Rynetta from jcrewismyfavstore [insert 2nd excited squeal]!!!  You can find her blog here and her Instagram here. If you like J. Crew and/or professional fashion, then you need to follow her. We've followed each other on Instagram for a while now, but just figured out that we live in the same city.  We were so excited to get together for dinner. It was a success--we hit it off!  I'm so thankful to have made another blogging friend who lives nearby:)

All J. Crew outfit were necessary for the occasion, of course.
3. Kane had a double-header of birthday parties on Saturday.  They were both outside, and it was hot, but it was sweet to see him playing with his buddies.  I broke out the blow-up pool for him on Sunday, and he loved it!  I almost climbed in it with him because I was melting while watching him.

4. A new Wardrobe Re-Wear is up, as promised.  I love doing these posts, and my hubby did a great job taking the pictures. He hates it, but it does it anyways.  That's just one of the little things I love about him.

5. I've been wearing all of my cheap and fun sale shirts this week.  Have you checked out the Maurices sale yet??? Disclaimer: the navy + white print button-up is from the Old Navy clearance extra 30% off sale, but I think that ended last week:(

Wardrobe Re-Wear : Basic Striped Tee

It has been almost 2.5 months since I last had a Wardrobe Re-Wear here on the blog. . .how did that happen?!  It may have something to do with the monsoon season Kentucky has been experiencing this summer.  Anyways, these are some of my favorite posts to do, so I can promise you guys will be seeing these posts at least once every few weeks from here on out.

This edition features my favorite striped shirt from Target!  Stripes are everywhere this season, and from what I'm seeing, this trend will be carrying into fall.  A 3/4-length sleeve shirt is the perfect seasonal transition piece that really can be worn all year around.  If you're looking to add one to your wardrobe, I suggest a black and white color combo like the one I'm wearing below, or cream and navy.

OUTFIT 1 : Office Ready

I featured this entire look with tons of details on the blog earlier this week, which you can see here.  The deal on these pants is too good to pass us!  I love black skinny pants for the office.  Since the pants and shirt are so neutral, I added pops of pink with the heels and necklace to liven things up a little.  I really enjoy wearing fun outfits to the office that are work appropriate but allow me to express my individuality. Disclaimer though: I wear heels to the office about as often as I pay retail price for something. . .

OUTFIT 2 : Date Night Ready

To transition this outfit to date night ready, I swapped the black pants for neutral scalloped shorts that I picked up on sale from Loft earlier this summer and, for once in my life, went with an all neutral color palette with my accessories and shoes.  The only exception was my Rebecca Minkoff Mini Mac bag and my lips.  Gasp, I know.  This Kendra Scott necklace, however, does a great job of making a statement, and these Hot Cakes sandals pull everything together by balance the black stripes on the shirt with the white on the rest of the outfit.  For my fellow Lilly Pulitzer lovers out there, the Loft shorts are a great alternative to the similar-styled Lilly scallop hem shorts and the sandals are great alternatives to Jack Rogers.

Also, these pictures turned out hilarious.  This is what happens when you shoot 2 outfits in a row and you're having fun with it.

Tee: Target (some solid colors of a very similar tee are on sale for $3.60!!!)
Shorts: Loft (currently on sale, check site for latest details)
Necklace: Kendra Scott via Clothes Mentor (sold out)
Crossbody: Rebecca Minkoff
Sandals: Hot Cakes via The Lilly Pad Company
Sunglasses: Walmart Optical (similar)
Black bracelet: Style This Life on Etsy
Gold bangle bracelet: Lilly for Target (similarsimilar)

If you're loving these outfit ideas, be sure to follow me on Instagram (@brightonabudget).  I frequently post #ootd/#wiw, and pass along good deals as soon as I see them!  I hope these posts give you some ideas about how to shop your own closet and match-up clothes you never thought of pairing together!

Skinny Black Pants + Pops of Pink

This is the 1st part of a Wardrobe Re-Wear I'm doing.  I usually combine the outfits into one post but I love both of these so much that I had to split it into two.  Come back on Wednesday to see the other way I styled this tee!

While I'm a girl who can go all-out bright when it comes to outfits, I also love the simplicity of black + white together.  It's the most classic and timeless color combination of all time.  Enter this striped boat-neck top from Target. I usually hate boatnecks, but this one has fabric sewn into the gap at the shoulders so your bra strap doesn't show.  Cute and functional? I'm in.

Skinny black pants are also elegant.  I picked up this pair from the Maurices end-of-summer clearance sale that's going on now for only $8.74!  I love Maurices' dress pants because they are well-made and wear well.  These are relaxed in fit through the hip and thighs, which is a cut that I've grown to prefer.

To break up the color scheme, I tossed on a pink necklace and my matching Jessica Simpson heels that I got for a still from Dillard's at Fayette Mall.  Don't you just love when pieces you've been eyeing go on major sale?!  And please ignore that my two necklaces got tangled together. . . note to self to always check jewelry layering before shooting an outfit.haha

Tee: Target (some solid colors of a very similar tee are on sale for $3.60!!!)
Pants: Maurices (available online in limited sizes here and plus size here)
Crystal necklace: Target (similar)
Pink necklace: Purple Peridot
Heels: Dillards at Fayette Mall
Clutch: Forever 21 via an IG friend (sold out)

My nails are painted with Essie's Bikini So Teeny, one of my favorite nail polish colors for summer. To see my other favs, click here.  This lip color is my new favorite lip product, which you can read more about here.

Remember to stop back by on Wednesday to see the second way I styled this tee--more casually for a great date night look!

High Five for Friday 07.17.15

TGIF, H54F-ers!!! Della at Della Devoted, Katie at Cup of Tea, and myself want to welcome you to the link-up and the weekend.  We made it!!!

This week's featured blogger is Saprina from Saprina Says.  She blogs about beauty and life.  She's a "Daughter of The King, single mom, self proclaimed product junkie."  I really enjoyed her recent posts about 5 Steps to Developing Your Personal Style and her 90 Day Rocksbox Review.

Now let's recap the highlights from this week:

1. I met Whitney from Come Home for Comfort in real life on Wednesday!  Whitney and I met through the H54F linkup and I read her blog regularly--you should too.  She's a hoot and we found tons to talk about.  We had lunch at Saul Good, and both ordered pizzas.  Of course we took pictures for our H54F posts.haha  And she brought me the most delicious strawberry bread.  There goes everything out the window that your mom told you about not meeting people online or taking candy from strangers.  Lunch wasn't long enough, and I'm already looking forward to the next time we meet up!

Please excuse my #flathairdontcare (thanks, Katie.haha), but our scarf game is on point.

2. Yesterday was free french fry day at Penn Station!!!!  French fries are my favorite, and Penn Station has some of the best.  Of course I was there for lunch yesterday.  Did you think I would miss it???

3. It's the week for great sales--the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale opens up to non-cardholders today, Maurices end-of-summer clearance sale has hit, Old Navy currently has an extra 30% off of their clearance, and Amazon Prime Day was Wednesday.  OK, I don't think the last one really counts because I don't think it lived up to the hype, and I missed out on the 40" TV for $115.

I went to Maurices last night.  For $120, I ended up with 2 HUGE bags of clothes and saved almost $500 (use code DENIM715 online to save $15 off $75 right now)!!! This is probably one of my all-time favorite sales.  Long story short, it's a wonderful time to be stocking up on clothes for cheap. For advice on how to shop end-of-season clearance sales like a pro, you can check out my post here, and don't forget to use Ebates!

4.  I headed straight for the hills last weekend and spent some time with my family in Eastern Kentucky.  There's nothing better than curling up on the couch surround by those you love, or chatting with one of your best friends in person:) Oh, and having family to help with Kane. It's difficult to have your family live so far away when you have small children.

5.  The blog redesign is complete!  Thanks to Kreated by Kelsey for getting it done so quickly.  I designed the logo and she did the rest.  I highly recommend her if you're looking for a refresh for your blog.  She is highly professional, works quickly, and is very reasonably priced.

So let's throw some other things out there. . .I feel a Wardrobe Re-Wear post coming on next week, so long as the weather cooperates.  And we (my co-hosts and I) are trying to figure out ways to make your H54F even better and take the connectivity to the next level!  We're brainstorming on a survey you all can take, but I'd love to hear your ideas below.  I will tell you that we tend to chat online most Thursday nights as we're preparing our posts.  How would you all feel about us opening up something like that to let all of you participate?

Thanks for joining us for H54F!  Be sure to link-up below and/or let us know how your week's been in the comments!
Follow along on GFC (click link or click button sidebar), Bloglovin' (click link or click button on sidebar), or email (click here).  Also, tweet us or use #H54F and we'll retweet your post!

Favorite Nail Polishes for Summer

Ever since I was a little girl, I've always loved nail polish (much to my mom's dismay when I would spill it all over the place).  I like to change my nail polish up based on the seasons, so I though I'd share my favorite nail polish colors for summer.  These colors have shown up in my wardrobe, in my accessories, and even in my new blog design!

Colors, from left to right:

Essie--Chillato
This shade is describe on Essie's website as "frozen cream pistachio."  It's a lovely light yellow shade that has a slight green tint but heavy cream undertones.  This is your color is you want a neutral shade with a twist.

OPI--You're Such a BudaPest (Currently 2 for $16)
Not only one of my favorite summer colors, but one of my all-time favorite colors!  For those of you who love the blue of Lapiz of Luxury or Bikini So Teeny, this is a similar shade with more of a pastel purple tint (I have all 3 shades in my collection).

Sally Hansen Triple Shine--Dive In
In my mind, there's no other shade that screams summer more than Dive In.  I scored this for less than $1.50 on clearance at Target.  It's very similar to Essie's Naughty Nautical but without the shimmer or the price tag.

Maybelline Color Show--Lust for Lilac (BOGO 50% off)
I'm wearing this coloraddi type this post. I had been looking for the perfect shade of lilac nail polish, and picked this one up on a whim.  It's perfect!  This shade is good if your like a lighter nail color but are tired of your basic light pinks.

Essie--Bikini So Teeny
Lighter shades of blue are my favorite, and this shade is no exception.  Essie describes this as "a sparking, cornflower blue." How many of you loved coloring with the Cornflower colored crayon from Crayola??? Maybe that's part of why I love this nail polish so much.  It's slightly lighter in tone than Lapiz of Luxury and has a subtle shimmer to it.

If you want to know how to do a manicure that looks like you've just been to the salon, click here.

What colors are gracing your nails this summer? I'm always up for trying new shades!

I promise, fashion posts are returning next week:)  It's just been too rainy out to shoot any posts.
Speaking of the rain, for those of you that pray, please keep eastern Kentucky in your prayers as the region has suffered devastating flooding this week.
