Wardrobe Re-Wear : Transitioning Shorts to Fall

Is anyone else holding on to summer style as long as they can???  Don't get me wrong, I'm just as excited for fall as anyone else, but I know it's going to be awhile before my legs see the light of day when the weather gets cold.  On our recent vacation, a couple of the nights were a little on the cool side, so I was excited to break out some of my new long-sleeved tops.  Here's two ways you can transition your shorts into fall fashion.  The pair I'm wearing are the 3" oxford short from J. Crew and they're currently on sale for only $14.50!!!

The shorts, styled for summer. . .
Tee: [sponsored] c/o Kentucky Brewed Tees. Use code BRIGHT for 10% off your purchase!

OUTFIT 1 : Date Night Style

I picked this shirt up at the recent Maurices clearance sale (along with another gazillion things) for less than $8.  It has a perforated look, so I knew it would be breathable.  I popped it over a plain white tank and rolled the sleeves up a little. To jazz up my look for date night, I added my taupe statement necklace--it's seriously the best piece to take casual tee style to deliberate style.

DETAILS
Top: Maurices (similar--on sale!)
Shorts: J. Crew
Necklace: Walmart (in-store)
Clutch: Kate Spade (sold out)
Bracelets: Lilly for Target (similarsimilar); Salem Swank; A Belle's Baubles
Flip-flops: Gap Outlet (old)
Sunglasses: Target (similar)

OUTFIT 2 : Travel Style

While I was at the beach, the Lilly Pulitzer After Party Sale was going on.  I really wanted the popover I'm wearing below, but it sold out way quick only (and I'm a super quick draw on online sales).  Anyways, the Lilly store in Charleston, Palm Avenue, just so happened to have it in my size!!!!  Yay!  This popover is so comfortable for traveling, especially if you're traveling with someone who likes to blast the air conditioner, but it will also be perfect for nights by the bonfire, football games, or fall festivals! To bring out the shades of pink in the popover, I added my favorite tassel earrings.  I finished the outfit off by popping on some bangles and slipping into my Lilly Pulitzer McKim Sandals.

DETAILS
Popover: Lilly Pulitzer via Palm Avenue (sold out; similar but expensive)
Earrings: Purple Peridot
Clutch: Forever 21 (similar)
Bracelets: Lilly for Target (similarsimilar); Salem SwankA Belle's Baubles
Sandals: Lilly Pulitzer (similarsimilar but way less expensive)

Now since I was at the beach, I was still wearing summery shes. For the 1st outfit, you could pair it with taupe ankle booties, and for the 2nd outfit, you could pair it with some hot pink flats.

If you're loving these outfit ideas, be sure to follow me on Instagram (@brightonabudget).  I frequently post #ootd/#wiw, and pass along good deals as soon as I see them!  I hope these posts give you some ideas about how to shop your own closet and match-up clothes you never thought of pairing together!

High Five for Friday 08.28.15

TGIF, H54F-ers!!! Caitlin at Coffee with CaitlinDella at Della Devoted, Katie at Cup of Tea, and myself want to welcome you to the link-up and the weekend.  We made it!!!

Thanks to everybody who participated in the Google Hangout last night! I think everyone had a great time, and the chat was getting pretty interesting.haha  In case you missed it, I'm including the recording below.  You can watch to see how we all got into blogging, hear about our wardrobe mishaps, found out how we all got engaged, discover our Netflix binge-fest. . .you get where I'm going with this.  And check out my super awkward face as the screenshot for the video.haha

This week's featured blogger is Coletta from Coletta's Kitchen Sink.  Coletta recently became a SAHM.  She's a lifestyle blogger, and her blog centers around recipes, crafts (check out her crocheted flowers tutorial here), and books (yay!).

Now let's review the highlights of my week:

1. Kane was dropped back off to us on Saturday from his own vacation in eastern Kentucky.  We were so happy to have our little guy back, even if he returned a little bit meaner than when he left.   Since my mom and Chauncey's mom drove him back to Lex, we all went out to dinner at Joe B's.  Joe B's is one of my favorite restaurants in town--they have delicious breadsticks that you can dip in garlic butter.

2. While I was sad to say goodbye to the beach, I was very thankful that we had a safe trip home. Until next time, Charleston. . .

3. I won a $50 giftcard from @shopthemint on Instagram for one of my outfit pictures I posted!  More clothes? Yes, please!

4. This week Kane has had to pack his backpack and 2 big dinosaurs everywhere (rawr!).  Seriously. We take them with us in the car to daycare, and he fell asleep with them all in the crib on Wednesday night. He's so adorable carrying them all around.

5. All kinds of goodies came in the mail this week!  I received a new Kendra Scott necklace and my first shipment from the Lilly Pulitzer After Party Sale was waiting on me when I got home from vacation.  I love a good mail day.  The only bad part of my mail this week? I found a pair of periwinkle Kendra Scott earrings 50% off at Nordstrom, and they sent me the wrong color:(  Of course, the periwinkle color that I had really been wanting was no longer available when I opened the box and, so they're replacing with a different color at the same costs.

That clutch/pouch in Pomegranate Jungle Tumble was only $14 from the APS sale!
Finally, I'm still catching up on reading and commenting from when I was gone on vacation, so please bear with me.

Thanks for joining us for H54F!  Be sure to link-up below and/or let us know how your week's been in the comments!

H54F Google Hangout TONIGHT!!!

Tonight is the night for our very 1st H54F Google Hangout [eeek]!!!  For our fellow bloggers and regular readers, you know I've been hosting the High Five for Friday linkup with DellaCaitlin and Katie for a while now! One of our goals was to make H54F a community of bloggers--one where we get to know one another, support each other as bloggers, and have fun!  Well, things are about to get real:)

Join us TONIGHT at 9:30PM EST for our very first LIVE Google Hangout!!!

For those of you who are a little clueless about Google Hangouts (like we were ourselves.haha). here's how it will work:

At 9:30PM you'll be able to watch a live stream of DellaCaitlinKatie, and I gabbing away! Since this is our first Hangout, we're planning a little "get to know us" session. Warning: we're very random.  You will be able to chat and ask questions via in-hangout messaging as we go along.

There are quite a few ways to watch! You can watch right here, on this post!

You can also watch on
Google+ or YouTube!  You don't need a Google+ account to watch. BUT you will need one if you want to ask us questions live. But if you don't have one, no worries! You can still watch LIVE!
If you can't make it, don't worry about that either! We will be recording, and it will be available to watch later, whenever you want--we'll make it available on this post after the Hangout concludes.

We are so excited to have you join us at 9:30PM tonight! Just remember, this is our first time. It could be really entertaining, or a really big failure! But either way, it will be worth watching. HAHA!
See you tonight!!!

Turquoise Necklace and White Skinny Jeans

The necklace in this post is sponsored by Helen's Jewelry.  All opinions are my own.

There's just something about styling outfits at the beach.  The location really inspires me--I love the bright colors against the backdrop of sand and surf.  Take the Snapper Jack's building at Folly Beach, for instance.  Snapper Jack's is a fun place to hang out with friends and get a drink! Then again, what else would you expect from such a brightly-colored building?  I was going to snap more pictures, but the heavens were opening up (see the rain drops on my shirt?).

How an outfit comes together is always different, but this outfit started with these white skinny jeans that are torn at the knee.  I say "jeans" because while these look like jeans, they're more of a knit pant with a jean structure.  If you hate the see-through white pants, then these pants are for you.  They're soft and forgiving.  The best part is that these have the torn knees that I've been seeing all over Instagram, but not the price tag.  As a rule of thumb, I don't invest in destructed denim pieces, so when these were $10 off at Target a few weeks ago, I immediately ordered them.  They will carry well into fall to be paired with olive and oxblood as well.

I had originally planned on wearing another shirt with these jeans, but it just wasn't working.  The top wasn't meshing the way I wanted it to, so I spied this pink blouse in my suitcase and tried it on. BINGO!  The necklace and sandals quickly followed as the outfit fell together.  Don't you love when that happens?!  The necklace, from Helen's Jewels, is one of my favorite ones that was just added to my jewelry collection. The length is perfect, and the shape and marbling of the stone is beautiful!  It's a statement piece without being overwhelming.  Popping it on with any shirt instantly ups the "put-together" factor of your look!  If you want to snag one for yourself, use code FIRSTBUY20 for 20% off your first purchase from Helen's Jewels!

Oh, and I had a matching wristlet to shoot with this outfit, but there was no way I was sitting my LV down on the ground in the rain to get it out (Chauncey wouldn't hold it for me).haha

After shooting these photos, we headed in to downtown Charleston for our last evening on vacation. Thankfully the rain let up on the drivev(white pants and rain do NOT mix).  We started the evening with a carriage tour of historic Charleston, and ended at Poogan's Porch for dinner.

What do you think about the current torn knee/white denim trend?  Are you on the boat or off?

Kentucky Brewed Tees | Home Is Where the Heart Is

I am a brand rep for Kentucky Brewed Tees, and as such, I do receive free merchandise.  All opinions are my own, and let's be honest--I love this company!

And just like that, vacation is over!  It was a wonderful, relaxing week at Folly Beach and Charleston, SC, but enough about that--I got a full recap coming for you in the next couple of weeks:)  When I'm on the road, I love to wear a Kentucky tee.  Why?  Because it's a great conversation starter!  Trust me, Kentucky fans are allllll over, near and far, so I always like to use my shirt as a way to meet other Kentuckians away from home.

Luckily, I got an awesome shipment from Kentucky Brewed Tees about 12 hours before I hit the road.  Of course several of their tees got tossed in my suitcase for the trip!  The one I'm wearing for this post is called the Kentucky Hearts Tank.  These tanks are unisex, so they fit a little bigger.  This one is a medium and fits me loosely, but that makes it perfect for a front-tuck or to tie a knot on the side (because 1995 is totally having a moment again!).

The tank pairs perfectly with my favorite boyfriend shorts from Target. I also donned a thin knit duster from the Maurices sale that I think I got for around $8, since these pictures were taken at sunset when it had gotten a little cooler on the beach.  I love how fun this tank is, and how it will transition great to fall with some cardigans.

Details
Tank: Kentucky Brewed Tees (use BRIGHT for 10% off)
Cardigan: Maurices (similar, similar)
Shorts: Target
Necklace: Target (similar)
Clutch: Kate Spade (similar)
Sandals: Lilly Pulitzer (similarsimilar but way less expensive)

With football tailgating season quickly approaching, I think this is a must-have for any Kentucky fan's closet!!! If you want to order one for yourself, be sure to use promo code BRIGHT to save 10% on your entire purchase from Kentucky Brewed Tees!

This was such a fun shoot right on the beach in front of Tides Folly Beach hotel, right by the Folly Beach Pier. Lighting and wind made things a little difficult, so please excuse those factors.haha

High Five for Friday 08.21.15 : Beach Edition

TGIF, H54F-ers!!! Caitlin at Coffee with CaitlinDella at Della Devoted, Katie at Cup of Tea, and myself want to welcome you to the link-up and the weekend.  We made it!!!

First things first: We're finalizing plans for our LIVE Google Hangout on Thursday, August 27, at 9:30PM EST! It will be super easy to join! Just prior to the Hangout going live, we'll be sending out a link to watch the live stream. You'll be able to find Katie, Caitlin, Della, and me LIVE! You don't need a Google+ account to watch! We can't wait to give this a whirl. Just bear in mind that this is our first time doing this, and it may be rough and/or hilarious (we're pretty funny people).
This week's featured blogger is Mariah from Faith & Fashion. Mariah is a fashion and lifestyle blogger that I met through Instagram over a mutual Kentucky bond, but she's based in St. Louis:) She has an adorable daughter, who you can "meet" on her recent post documenting her Springfield, Illinois trip. Also, I need everything on her fall fashion wishlist except for the blanket scarf, because I already have it.haha

Now let's recap the highlights from my week:
1. I've been on vacation this week in Folly Beach/Charleston, SC. This is seriously one of my favorite places on earth. I'm planning a full recap of the new places I visited on this trip, but you can check out my review of Folly Beach and the Tides Folly Beach hotel here, and my review of downtown Charleston here, both from last year. It has been an amazing and much needed trip, but I'll be happy to be home today. Please say a little prayer for us a safe trip.

2. So, in case you haven't figured it out yet, I can be very random, and evidently so can my friends.haha I posted on Instagram about us heading out on our trip, when Whitney from Come Home for Comfort mentioned I should stop and see her along the way. . .so I did. Due to timing, we ended up meeting for coffee off an Interstate exit that was a quick drive from her house, but it was worth it:) I love this crazy blogging life!

3. I totally scored at the Lilly Pulitzer After Party Sale!!! My favorite pattern right now is Red Right Return, and I ended up with a popover and a tank in it. While I got up and shopped the sale online at 8 a.m. Monday morning (getting several awesome goodies), they were sold out of the RRR popover online. But the local Charleston Lilly store, Palm Avenue, had one in stock for just a little more than the online price. I think this print is basically the new You Gotta Regatta, so I wanted to get my hands on it before the resale prices go outrageous.

Oh, and shoutout to my wonderful hubby who got up to shop the online sale with me! I was #1334 in line and got on the site in around 5 minutes, while he wasn't very far behind. I shopped what I really wanted first, checked out so that those items didn't sell out on me, and then shopped on his iPad to be able to browse.

4. While relaxing on the beach, I read several books. I love to read trashy romance novels. As an attorney, I read some really dry material for work sometimes, so I like to keep the reading light in the off-time. Sadly, I couldn't find my Kindle for this trip, but I made due with paperbacks and my iPad mini.

5. Seashells! One of my favorite things about being at the beach is hunting seashells! I woke up early a couple of mornings and went down to the beach to see what I could find. While I'm still on the hunt for "the big one," I still did pretty good. I think it's so much fun to see what you can find! Is anyone else obsessive about hunting shells?

Most importantly, I'd really like to thank my friends who've guest blogged for me this week, and I hope you'll check out their posts!!! Lots of good beauty and fashion tips!

Wardrobe Re-Wear : T-Shirt Dress from Della Devoted

Today's guest blogger is Della from Della Devoted. She's one of my co-hosts for High Five For Friday and a long-time friend in real life. Make sure to visit Della's blog and say hello!

I love a good T-shirt dress! What about you? They are so comfortable and can go with just about anything. I love the cotton feel of them as well. You can wear them to church, the office, or on date night. The possibilities are endless. Here are my two favorite ways to style a t-shirt dress for Summer and Fall.

OUTFIT 1: SUMMER STYLE

I love this basic yet stylish look for summer. You really don't have to add much to this J Crew t-shirt dress to make it look good.  I stuck with the basics here and added a classic gray necklace from Paparazzi Jewelry (only $5!) and my favorite go to Peshmina Sandals.

OUTFIT 2: FALL FASHION

The fall look is my favorite.  It's a very fun yet stylish look. You can dress the outfit up with a good pair of black leggings and some boots. It makes for an adorable outfit. It's also a great way to stay warm too. Don't forget to match your favorite purse with it as well!

How to Style Polka Dot Shorts | Garay Treasures

This post contains affiliate links.

Today's guest blogger is Rachel from Garay Treasures!  Rachel is a sweet and stylish friend.  She blogs about fashion with a twist of inspiration, hosting the Blogger Who Inspire Me linkup every Tuesday.

howtowearpolkadotshorts
Hello readers of Bright on a Budget! My name is Rachel and I am the fashion and lifestyle blogger behind Garay Treasures.  I am happy to be guest posting for Tiffany today to show you how I have styled polka-dotted shorts and let you get a glimpse of my overall personal fashion sense which is classy, pretty and casual most of the time. If you like what you have read, please take some time and check out the links I have included in this post to get full outfit details and more "How to Style..." posts. You can also follow me at the following social media sites:Bloglovin, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Google + and Pinterest.

Last summer was my first summer welcoming shorts back into my life after 12 years (I am not kidding as I felt they looked awful on my body shape), but that changed when I found these polka dotted shorts at Target on clearance for $6.  At the time, they were all the rave in the fashion world and I didn't have but $6 of birthday money left, so these went into my shopping basket.  It was love at first sight, but once I got them they stayed in my drawers for weeks until I came up with a few ways I wanted to style them.

Today, I am sharing with you some ways I turned my "What goes with these polka-dotted shorts?" to "How to Style Polka-Dot Shorts." So many things go with these such as a lace top, leather jacket, graphic tee, other patterns and more. Below is 5 ways I have styled them and I provide back links to past posts of me wearing the outfits you see below.

Style Option 1: Add some heels and a black button down pleated tee

IMG_2071

Enough said! This look adds a happy hour or go out and about town vibe while remaining both casual and sexy. I choose to keep the jewelry minimal and the black in the outfit makes the polka-dots burst even more (see outfit details and post here).

Style Option 2: Add some texture into the outfit (such as lace, crochet or eyelet).

IMG_2370

Adding texture to the polka dots can create some elegance and leave the outfit looking more put together and polished. The blouse you see above has some crochet and lace details and this allows the eyes to not just focus on polka-dots but to be more set on the whole outfit (see this outfit post here).

Style Option #3: Add an accessory (hat, colorful bag) to compliment the colors of the shorts.

dsc01215

I think adding similar colors as the shorts is always a safe bet. Just add a fedora, hat, or other accessory, even a colorful accessory, and you have yourself more than just a plain look (see the full post here).

Style Option #4: Add Chambray or denim.

IMG_2207

Chambray is my go to for every outfit just about and is such a useful wardrobe staple for all seasons (see my "How to Style and Wear Chambray for Spring & Summer" post). Chambray or denim is just an extra fun layering piece or even top to wear with polka-dot shorts (See this outfit and details here).

Style Option #5: Or just go with a white tee.

IMG_1063

If you can't tell by now I love to style these polka-dotted shorts with white or black tops as I haven't yet deviated from the neutral colors, but I am happy to try neon tops or colors, and other patterns with the shorts (see the outfit details here).

Tell me how have you styled your polka-dot bottoms/shorts in the comments below!

Here are some polka dot shorts for you to click on for inspiration and/or add to your shopping cart as a lot of these are on sale (hey, you can always stock up for next year as polka dots are going no where):
