Buffalo Plaid Vest and Ankle Boots

The necklace in this post was sent to me by Lucky Peanut Jewelry.  All opinions are my own.

Fall has arrived, and brought with it all the plaid goodness that you could've hoped for! I've been impatiently waiting for temperatures to cool down enough for me to start wearing my fall items.  Two items that I was especially chomping at the bit to wear were my buffalo plaid/red check vest and ankle boots.

When it comes to buffalo plaid, I'll take one of everything, please.  Seriously, I cannot get enough of this print.  When I saw this vest at Old Navy, I bided my time until it went an extra 40% off and then snatched it up.  Becky from BYBMG and I are like the buffalo plaid police. . .if we see something in buffalo plaid, we immediately alert each other.  I picked up some Jamberry nails in buffalo plaid from her (she's a consultant) and can't wait to wear them!!!

Now, when it comes to ankle boots, I was hesitant at first.  I put off getting a pair last year, but finally took the plunge this year. Target has some wonderful, affordable options. I chose this pair because taupe goes with everything, and I really liked the silver hardware to dress up the shoe.  Next to leopard, taupe is my favorite neutral color:) If you'd like to get in on the ankle boots trend, Target currently has 25% off shoes in store if you use the Cartwheel app!

I tossed both my vest and my boots on with this tie-waist dress from Target.  This is a recent purchase from when they had their Labor Day sale, but I cannot find it online for the life of me.  I think it's a pretty popular item, so if you want one and see it, grab it. This dress will be a great transitional piece going into winter since it will pair well with tights too!

Dress: Target (in-store, similar)
Vest: Old Navy
Boots: Target (currently extra 25% off in-store using Cartwheel app)

And I love this close-up of my drusy necklace from Lucky Peanut Jewelry--do you notice the tiny Kentucky charm that's affixed to it?  I've worn this necklace almost every day since I received it in the mail.  It has a 20" chain, so it's great to pair with anything v-neck or to layer with a longer necklace for added depth.  Katie has a great Etsy shop, so be sure to check it out!!!

Happy fall, y'all!!!  And don't forget that our How I Style It linkup for October featuring FALL COLORS is next Wednesday, October 7.

What fall staples are you breaking out now?  Is anyone else addicted to buffalo plaid?

Ultimate Summer Favorites to Carry You Into Fall | Cup of Tea

Today's guest post is from my H54F co-host Katie, who blogs over at Cup of Tea.  Cup of Tea is a beauty, life, and style blog.  Katie and I met through the H54F linkup many moons ago, and became fast friends.  I wish you could see our Facebook chats and non-televised Hangout calls.haha

Thank you, Tif, for letting me guest post!

Katie @ Cup of Tea

Hello everyone! I'm Katie, and my little blog home is over at Cup of Tea. I love to blog about things that are my 'cup of tea' - a favorite, can't live without item! I live in Durham, North Carolina, and I'm a wife and SAHM to our little girl, Elizabeth. And I love tea. Naturally.

Every month over on my YouTube channel I love to share what my favorite things have been recently. Sometimes products, sometimes TV shows, sometimes (ok... maybe always) snacks.
With Summer already over, it seemed like a great time to recap my favorites that kept me sane throughout the summer. Favorites aren't even the right word to use to describe them. More like "things I would most want to have on a hot, sticky deserted island".

So I thought, since you all, Tif's lovely readers, may not actually know me, what better way to get to know me than through a video? Hope you enjoy it!

Products Mentioned:
No affiliated or referral links... I'm just not that cool.

TRESemme Fresh Start Volumizing Dry Shampoo | This dry shampoo is more volumizing than most, which is really all I want in a dry shampoo. Not to mention being cheap.

Rimmel Radiance BB Cream in Light | I'm still blown away by how amazing this is! I always thought BB creams meant low coverage... this has a medium coverage like some of my favorite everyday foundations! And the radiance it has gives the perfect glow. This is my go-to "Don't want a full face of makeup, but I need to look alive" product.

Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment in Coral | For a tinted lip balm, the color is beautiful! It's a quick and easy way to wake up the face. And the coral color was perfect for Summer.

L'Oreal Infallible Pro - Spray & Set Makeup Extender Setting Spray | Seriously, with all the heat and humidity, I needed help keeping my makeup from sliding off my face. This did the trick.

Maui Jim Sunglasses | Expensive sunglasses just seem ridiculous. BUT these have changed my life. The lenses are polarized, which means everything looks like your watching something in HD. I will never buy cheap sunglasses again.

J Crew Factory striped skirt (stripe sold out, but there are other Fall colors available!) | This was my go-to skirt all summer long! One of those pieces that was easy to dress up or down. Not to mention an elastic waist. Which is perfect at any time of the year.

Anything you couldn't live without this summer? I need to know!

Irresistible Me Hair Extensions: Review and Tips for Wearing

Disclosure: Irresistible Me provided me with these hair extensions to review. All opinions are my own.

I love long hair.  Up until about a month after I got married, right after graduating undergrad, I had hair down to my waist. But let's be honest.  That's a lot of upkeep. For the majority of the time, I'm much happier with my hair at it's current length, but every now and then I long for longer hair.  I'd toyed with the idea of getting extensions for some time, so when Irresistible Me contacted me and asked if I'd like to review their clip-in hair extensions, I was all for it!

I selected the Royal Remy 18" clip-in hair extensions in 140g in Royal Medium Brown. The Royal Remy is their deluxe line of hair extensions made from human hair and comes in a wide rage of colors.  I was worried about getting the wrong shade, but in all honesty, these blend pretty well. Long story, but I also tried out the 16" Royal Chocolate Brown extensions and they blended just as well.  I think even if you don't have highlights/lowlights, you can still be slightly off on the shade and it still blend decently, since you place these throughout your hair.

My whole set of hair extensions.
The lengths start with 14" and go up to 22". As mentioned above I got the 18", but the 16" would work well if I wanted to add volume but not length.  I like the 18" length because I get the volume + a little extra length, and it blends really well with my hair.

While there are several choices for the weight of the hair, the 18" extensions are only available in 140g and 200g.  I believe the 140g set consists of 8 wefts (sections) of hair and the 200g set consists of 10 wefts. My hair is thick but fine, so I chose the 140g set so as not to overwhelm my head and not pull a ton on my actual hair, as these extensions attach to your real hair by clips. Even with the 8 wefts, my set is a little much for my hair, and I only wear a combination of the wefts.  In the pictures below, I'm wearing everything but one 3-clip weft.

This is a weft. My set came with one 4-clip weft, three 3-clip wefts, two 2-clip wefts, and two 1-clip wefts.
So how do they wear???

- BEFORE -

- AFTER -

I have tried these extensions out for about a month and a half now, and I really enjoy them.  I don't have a lot of experience with extensions, but these seem to be of a good quality.  I appreciate how natural they look and how they blend in with my real hair.  I was frustrated with them at first, as they didn't seem to want to curl, but once I acknowledged that they're not actually just like my real hair, then I figured out how best to work with them.  While I don't wear them every day, they're fun for a different look.  And when I went to get my hair cut, I felt more confident in getting a little more cut off of my length, because I knew I had these for a longer look:)

For further views, I am wearing the shorter, darker extensions here and the same extensions in this post here.

Tips
1. I know a lot of people tend to curl their hair with their extensions in.  My hair is naturally wavy and holds curl well, so I tend to set the heat on my curling iron to somewhere between 350-380 degrees.  I found these extensions take a little more heat to get a good, lasting curl--somewhere around 400-425 degrees.  So as not to damage my natural hair by applying too much heat, I curl my extensions before putting them in my hair.  I use a 1" Helen of Troy curling iron.  I've had it for years and it's hands-down my favorite curling tool.

2. These extensions are made from human hair, so it's important to treat them with the same respect you show your real hair.  This means you should use a heat protectant when curling or straightening the hair.  You should also handle with care and brush/comb carefully.

3. Do NOT sleep with your extensions in (or otherwise wallow in them).  My hair stylist stressed this point to me.  When you sleep in your extensions, they tug on your hair, which in turn tugs on the scalp.  She cautioned me that I'd end of with bald spots if I did this.

4. I like to tease my hair at the roots before I put these in to give the clips a little more staying power. I also tease my hair on top after I'm done to help cover up the top layer of extensions.

I highly recommend Irresistible Me hair extensions if you're considering a foray into hair extensions. I like that these are quick to clip in and quick to take out.  I also like that they're a non-permanent solution. They have tons of options on their website, and different price points depending on your budget.  You can also enjoy 20% off your first order when you use GET20OFF!!!

Disclosure: Irresistible Me provided me with these hair extensions to review. All opinions are my own.

High Five for Friday 09.25.15 : Fall Finds and Other Goodness

TGIF, H54F-ers!!! Caitlin at Coffee with CaitlinDella at Della Devoted, Katie at Cup of Tea, and myself want to welcome you to the link-up and the weekend.  We made it!!!

This week's featured blogger is Sheryl from How to Make a Life.  Sheryl is a fellow Kentuckian (she and I still need to do lunch soon) and an inspirational lifestyle blogger.  She's a clinical social worker/life coach, and her posts are always thoughtful and insightful, like this one. She also recently did a guest post about How to Create a Self-Care Toolbox here.

Now let's recap the highlights of my week:

1. Last Friday night, Chauncey and I took Kane to a picnic at his daycare.  Afterwards, Kane and I hit up the Market 301 that happens once a month in Lexington.  It's an event where local artists and shops come together in a different location each month to sell their wares.  My favorite, Kentucky Brewed Tees, was there! I checked out their fall collection, which I love!  Since I'm a brand rep, I get to share my Kentucky Brewed Tees promo code with you--use code BRIGHT for 10% off of your entire purchase if you'd like to order something for yourself!  I also bought some snacks, a few little gifts, and picked myself up a small canvas from Mirabelle Creations!

Photo Used with Permission from Kentucky Brewed Tees.

2. MY HOUSE IS FINALLY BEING PAINTED!!! I'm extremely happy to get rid of all of these white walls, and I'll share some decorating pictures once the process is complete!

3. Kane had to have tubes put in his ears again, so my mom was with us for 3 days this week!  It sucks that Kane had to go through that, but I love that I got to spend extra time with my mom.  We even hit up the Cheesecake Factory while she was here, and Kane was an angel.  In case you were wondering, I got the red velvet cheesecake:)  I had leftovers for breakfast and dinner today, and I plan on eating the rest for breakfast tomorrow.

4. It's fall y'all!  I picked up these adorable decorations (and more, not pictured) from Target this week.  The little sign was only $1 in the One Spot!!!

Oh, and I picked up 2 purses and 3 new plaid shirts from Old Navy that I can't wait to share with you. Yay for an extra 40% off and free shipping! Old Navy has had that deal on their website twice recently, but it wasn't overtly obvious on their desktop website this time around.  It was on the homepage, but it was smaller and you really had to look to see it. It was actually more prominent on the mobile website. Weird.

5. We had another H54F Hangout last night!  You can watch the video below to get our insights into blogging, and find out all about 5 Day Hair.hahaha  Beforehand, I attended a UK Law lecture featuring SCOTUS Justice Samuel Alito. He is an excellent speaker who is very entertaining.

Lawyer Style : Blush Blazer and Lace

This post contains affiliate links.  Also, the hair extensions were sent to me by Irresistible Me to try. All opinions are my own.

Today I'm teaming up with my beautiful lawyer buddies to bring you some lawyer style.  I love each of these attorney's style, so be sure to stop be each of their blogs to check out all their outfit deals and get to know these girls a little better!  My co-hosts are:

Brittany from The Lawyer Lady
Leeanne from LegalLee Blonde
Nina from Law of Fashion
Brittany from Lawyer Lookbook

Now, I don't often have to go into full lawyer-style mode at work, but when I do, I try to nail it.  I wore this outfit to a recent meeting and loved it!  The blush of the blazer and lace top looked so pretty and feminine against the black pants, shoes, and black and white Kendra Scott necklace.  I chose a bold burgundy lip to pull everything together.  Burgundy + blush is the perfect combo for fall, any way you pair it! And if you want to grab some burgundy lip color of your own, check out my guest post today over at Bows and Clothes!
I picked up every item of clothing (excluding accessories) from the Maurices end-of-summer clearance sale.  I think I paid around $23 for all three pieces.  Sadly, these pieces are sold out, but I've linked to similar items below in case you'd like to recreate this look.
Even if I have to carry a big work bag, I sometimes like to pack a separate handbag.  I love this one because I can use it as a crossbody if my arms are full.  Thanks to my sweet mom for buying it for me:)

Also, I'm wearing my Irresistible Me hair extensions!  I used to have super long hair down to my waist when I was in college. . .this is probably the longest "my" hair has been since I cut it a month after I got married.  I'll have a full review of the extensions on the blog later this week for those of you who are curious about them.

Don't forget to check out how my co-hosts' looks:

High Five for Friday 09.18.15 : Lunch, Leaves, & Lucky Peanut Jewelry

I was sent the Lucky Peanut Jewelry to review and I'm a brand rep for Kentucky Brewed Tees, but all opinions are my own.

***Don’t forget! The next H54F Hangout on September 24 at 9:30PM EST! That one will be all about blogging! Do you have any questions about blogging you’d like us to chat about? Any tips you want to share?? We’re all learning together, right? See you then!!!***

TGIF, H54F-ers!!! Caitlin at Coffee with CaitlinDella at Della Devoted, Katie at Cup of Tea, and myself want to welcome you to the link-up and the weekend.  We made it!!!

This week's featured blogger is Kelly from Familiar Joy!  Kelly is mom to four kids, a football wife, and a high school teacher.  She is a lifestyle blogger who blogs about her kids, house ideas, style, and food.  She most recently had an interesting post about who she would invite to a dinner party, and a fun recap of the state fair

Now let's recap this week's highlights:

1. Friday was that kind of day, to say the least.  I was going back to eastern Kentucky to get my hair done, and taking Chauncey's car.  I pulled into my house to throw my bags in the car, and the battery died.  Right there in the driveway.  But I'm resourceful, to say the least.  So I get our little jump start kit to jump start the battery, and when I start messing around with the battery, the car doors lock. . .with my keys inside.  I kid you not.  Only me.  Chauncey was not happy to say the least, and he pulled into the driveway just as AAA was finishing unlocking the doors.  Long story short, I finally got on the road and was an hour late to my hair appointment, but I made it and my hair lady stayed late to get me in (thanks, Ginger!). Nothing better than getting a fresh cut and color on a good day, let alone after that mess.haha

2. On Saturday, I met up with three other members of the East Kentucky Blog Society--Brittany from the Lady Lawyer, Erin from The Mimosa Memoir, and Nikki from Coal Miner's Bride. We had lunch at Lizzie B's in Prestonsburg.  FYI--the praline cappuccino and the pizza were both delightful.  Then we headed downtown to take some blog pictures.  It was cold.  Nikki's skirt kept Marilyn-ing (flying up), and I was about hit by several cars trying to get some good snaps, but at least Erin and Brittany didn't fall in the fountain when I got them to take some pics by it (I probably would have).hahaha We wrapped by grabbing some fudge from All Things Good & More that was just as delicious as our lunch.  Brittany wrote an awesome recap here.

By the way, my "Hello Beautiful" tee is on clearance for $15 from Kentucky Brewed Tees, and you can snag 10% off of your entire purchase with code BRIGHT!!! It's a perfect transition piece for fall.

3. One of my best friends, who is actually like a sister to me, had her baby shower on Saturday, so I headed straight there from Prestonsburg.  I loved getting to see her and celebrate her new arrival!!! Oh, and her mom made yummy chicken 'n dumplings, so I ate yet again.

4. I received some awesome jewelry in the mail from Lucky Peanut Jewelry!  I've been following LPJ on social media for a while now.  State jewelry is really in right now, and her Kentucky jewelry is flat-out fabulous!!!  I received the heart-shaped bangle with tassel, the white drusy necklace, and the Kentucky wired wrapped bangle (not pictured).  I have worn my items almost every day since I received them last weekend.

5. My September Glam Bag arrived from Etsy, and I was so excited to receive it!  It has several items in fall shades that made my heart happy.  Fall is on the ground. . .now if it'd just get in the air and make these temperatures drop some, I'd be a happy girl!!!

Fall Fashion I Blanket Scarves and Leather Accents [+ Giveaway]

This post contains affiliate links.

On Saturday, I met up with several other members of the East Kentucky Blog Society for lunch and such.  Brittany, Erin, and Nikki are a fun bunch to say the least--Brittany has a wonderful recap of the day here. Anyways, we took also took some outfit pictures, because duh, we're bloggers and just can't help ourselves.  Below is the outfit I shot that day.

This past weekend was the first fall-like weather we've had (but now it's back up to 80 degrees).  I've been excited to bust out some fall fashion for a couple of weeks now.  With temperatures in the 60s, the weekend weather provided me the opportunity to do so.

Two things I'm incorporating into my fall wardrobe are blanket scarves and leather accents.  I freeze year-round, so I'm alllll about being cozy.  Blanket scarves are not only warm, but they're also a stylish accessory for any look.  I have a plaid blanket scarf from last year, and I'm excited to add this crocheted blanket scarf to my closet this year!  It's a great pop of color that I look forward to incorporating on dreary days.  If you'd like your own, I'll share where to find one and how to enter to win one at the end of this post!!!

As for leather accents, I've seen them popping up everywhere this year!!!  Here, my leggings have a "leather" stripe running down the side.  These leggings are thicker than your usual leggings with a wide waistband that I love.  I purchased them and the tee during Maurices' end-of-summer clearance sale.

Speaking of the tee, I thought it paired perfectly with these jeweled slip-on sneakers from Target.  My wardrobe tends to be stylish but comfortable, and these sneakers fit right in.  I think they're an unexpected and fun way to dress up any outfit.

My Instagram friend Jenna recently started making these scarves.  Immediately after I double-tapped to the picture of the first one she made, I asked her to make one for me:)  She has since started making them to sell.  You can head over to her Instagram to check out her different scarves.  To purchase (they're $35), you can just comment on one of her photos with your Paypal email and color choice, and she can invoice you for your purchase.  Also, between now and 11:59 p.m. eastern time next Thursday (Sept. 24) night, you can receive $5 off of your crocheted blanket scarf purchase by tagging me in your comment!!!

And it gets even better!  Jenna and I are doing an Instagram giveaway--we're giving away one crocheted blanket scarf to one follower in their choice of 10+ colors!!!  Head on over to Instagram and look for the picture below for details on how to enter:

Thanks to Brittany from the Lady Lawyer for snapping these photos!!!
