High Five for Friday 01.29.16 : Snow Much Fun

TGIF, H54F-ers!!! Caitlin at Coffee with CaitlinDella at Della Devoted, Katie at Cup of Tea, and myself want to welcome you to the link-up and the weekend.  We made it!

Reminder: The next How I Style It link-up is this Wednesday, 02/04, featuring your date night looks!  Link-up goes live at midnight.

This week's featured blogger is Taylor from A Tattooed Teacher in Texas.  Taylor is a H54F-regular from way back in the day when the Lauren Elizabeth had the linkup:)  While the name of her blog explains a lot about Taylor in a few words, she also a people-watcher and addicted to colored pens and purple highlighters just like me! She just had her first week of grad school. Oh, and she's on top of her planner skills

Now let's recap this week's highlights:

1. We survived Jonas!  We only ended up getting about 10 to 12" of snow, so it wasn't terrible.  Kane loved playing in it, as did I.  Our local Jet's Pizza was delivering, so we had some yummy Jet's bread the first day.  I drive an AWD and totally could've made it out if we would've needed to be out, but we didn't, so we let ourselves be snowed in and it was fun.

How to Edit Your Photos Using Instagram + Other Instagram Tips

Click the image above to pin this post for future reference!

Instagram is by far my favorite social media outlet.  I mainly use it to share pictures of my outfits and accessories. If you're not following me, hop on over to my account here and follow me.

My Instagram account is now at just over 4900 followers.  It took me some time to really get going on Instagram, because I wasn't effectively editing my pictures and I had no idea how hashtagging worked and what I needed to be doing with it.  I thought I would share some of my tips and tricks with you to apply to your account.

$10 at Target x 2 : Double Dose of Bulleye's Playground

Welcome to this month's $10 at Target!  Let's start off with a confession. . .I went to Target one night and knocked out the $10 at Target challenge twice.  Oops.  It was therapeutic and totally necessary as Bulleye's Playground, formerly known as the One Spot, had just been restocked with all new goodies! So what did I get?

Today's featured blogger is Holly from While I'm Waiting, a lifestyle blog.  You can read the interesting story behind the blog's name here.  She hosts a weekly While I'm Waiting. . .Wednesday link-up.  She has an interesting, insightful post on the Konmari method of tidying up that you should read (that's the new tidying craze that's you've probably heard about).

Now let's recap this week's highlights:

1. My favorite item from the Lilly sale was waiting on me when I got home on Sunday--the Elsa top in Tropical Pink Catwalkin.  So I popped the tags on it and wore it yesterday!  I'm so glad that I convinced myself to finally buy an Elsa top.

2. We had a H54F Google Hangout last night.  It was completely random, per usual, but you can check it out here (why did the stillshot have to be of a random, goofy face of mine?).

Curing Winter Blues with Lilly Brights

This post contains affiliate links.

For the rest of January, I'll be helping my friend Rachel, from Garay Treasures, host her Tuesday link-up called Bloggers Who Have Inspired Me.  Be sure to link up your post below--it does not have to be fashion related.

Don’t Forget! Our next H54F Hangout will be THIS Thursday, January 14 at 9:30 PM Eastern Time! Can’t wait to hang with you all! Come back here to the blog Thursday night at 9:30 PM for ways to watch LIVE!

I'm still on my winter brights kick, which has been fueled by the white and pink Lilly packages I've received over the last week from the Lilly Pulitzer After Party Sale.  I'm in love with everything I got from the sale, including this Michele tee in Sea Blue Private Island.  It paired great with my periwinkle cardigan from the Gap Outlet that my mom got me from Christmas.  I anchored the business of my shirt print with black pants for a good neutral and hot pink accents throughout my outfit for consistency--pink Kendra Scott earrings and necklace, and my favor ite pink shoes.

High Five for Friday 01.08.16 : Lilly Pulitzer After Party Sale and a Long Week

TGIF, H54F-ers!!! Caitlin at Coffee with CaitlinDella at Della Devoted, Katie at Cup of Tea, and myself want to welcome you to the link-up and the weekend.  We made it!

Today's featured blogger is Crystal from And Blue Sky, a lifestyle blog.  Crystal has been blogging since 1999 and just recently switched to blogging at And Blue Sky for a blogging shakeup.  She's a crazy cat lady too:) I loved her review of the Cat Lady Box.

Guys, you all know I keep it honest around here, right?  So I'm going to be honest about my week. It's been a rough one.  My aunt Tonetta passed away from cancer this week. She and my other aunt who passed away from cancer in March of last year were diagnosed days apart in 2012.  Cancer sucks. But I'm still doing my highlights from this week, because you have to find the joy amongst the sorrow and focus on the happiness.

Now, let's recap this week's highlights:

1. Yesterday made 13 y-e-a-r-s since Chauncey and I started dating.  I'll share what I posted on FB along with the throwback picture:

Today makes 13(!) years since Chauncey and I started dating. I was 16 and he was 17. We were young, dumb, and in love. I look back and am in awe of the life we've built together since then. Our life is not perfect, but it's the story of the love and laughter, the heartache and tears, contained in those years that leaves me in awe. We grew up together and chased our dreams, and even now continue to chase our dreams as they grow and expand. We have a son who is the joy of our lives. So the next time you want to tell someone that high school love never lasts, instead tell them that sometimes high school love never dies.💕

This pic is from the 1st week we started dating, and it was Chauncey's 1st time over at my house. You can see my brother creeping in the mirror, and the big CRT monitor in the background.

2.  Chauncey, Kane, and I had a great weekend.  We had 2 family dates--one at Applebee's and one at Outback. And then we just relaxed. Perfect weekend!

3. The Lilly After Party Sale was Monday!  I was able to shop online at one of the signature stores on Sunday night to score my most-coveted item, an Elsa in Catwalkin.  I was #687ish online at 8 a.m. when the sale started, and was able to grab 3 items I loved.  That package already arrived.  Then I scored a dress from another signature store.  There's only 2 times when I shop Lilly: (1) twice a year during the After Party Sale and (2) resale, like from Clothes Mentor in Lexington. Needless to say, I was super excited.

4. Speaking of shopping and thrifting, I just purchased my 1st pair of Tory Burch flats off of the Goodwill auction website for $47. I will update once I receive them and find out if they fit.

5. The blog FB page finally hit 1,000 likes, and I won a giveaway from my friend Arlene over at Nanaland!

And ICYMI, there's tons of goodies on the blog this week:

2. Snowed in Style

4. An Instagram Giveaway (head over to my Instagram and find this pic)

Winter Brights and the Return of the Flare Jean

I don't think that it's any secret that I love bright colors. They just make me feel vibrant, and often give an instant pick-me-up to my mood.  Truly, I thrive on them.  This sweater from the Gap Factory store is the perfect way to mix winter brights into your wardrobe!  I love how the neon coral is paired with the gray, with the gray acting as an anchor color.  That's why I picked up gray with my shoes, also from Gap Factory.

And former MUDD fans everywhere rejoice, because the flared pant leg is back in style!  I never thought I'd purchase a pair of flare jeans ever again.  Seriously. The last pair I purchased was probably in my 1st year of law school 6 years ago.  But you know what they say about fashion being a cycle--I'll never forget my mom telling me when I was a teenager that fashion was on about a 7-year rotation (must have to go to med school in the meantime). This pair was a great deal at. . .[drumroll please]. . .Gap Factory!  In case you missed the memo, I love their clothes.

I thought I'd include a couple of shots of my hair too.  If you're not following Twist Me Pretty, then you should be.  She provides some awesome hair inspiration!

How I Style It : Snowed In Style

This post contains affiliate links.  Also, the jewelry from Lucky Peanut Jewelry was gifted to me, but all opinions are my own.

Before I forget, I'm co-hosting a giveaway for a Naked Smoky Palette--click here to check it out!

Welcome to January's installment of our "How I Style It" link-up!  This is a monthly linkup where we all get together to show you how we style our favorite fashion trends, and invite you to join us in showing off your passion for fashion as well! You can meet the hosts down below:)

Today we're sharing our Snowed in Style featuring boots.  Use the hashtag #snowedinstyle to join in on the fun on social media, and link-up your posts below.  Be sure to check out some of the other looks linked below for outfit inspiration!!!

Guys, I hate the cold but love the snow.  I unfortunately had just the cold on the day I shot these pictures, but a dusting of snow rolled through that night. Now, I'm not saying I'd like another 1.5 feet of snow, but I'd like a couple of inches on the ground soon.

When it's freezing cold, I like to stay warm with layers--the more the better.  You can't see it, but I totally have a tank underneath my sweatshirt.  I also like a thicker pair of leggings to pull some boots on over.  These OTK boots are perfect for added warmth! As for the sweatshirt, I sized up, making it perfect to wear with leggings.

Since my outfit was very monocromatic, I added color in my hat and vest.  The hat was a gift from Chauncey's aunt, while the vest and tunic sweatshirt was a gift from my mom.   A pop of color is one of my signatures in an outfit.

DETAILS
Sweatshirt: American Eagle Outlet
Leggings: VS Pink (my fav--I caught these on sale)
Vest: Gap Factory (similar, similar, similar)
Boots: Target
Necklaces: Kentucky-stamped bar necklace c/o, Kendra Scott (similar)
Bracelets: Gray stone (similar), coin dangle c/o, Kentucky bracelet c/o (same but with crystal)
Purse: Michael Kors Outlet
Hat: Aeropostale

Let's talk details now.  I have been obsessing over gold + gray/silver pairings here lately.  First, this Kendra Scott necklace is such a great piece!  The style is no longer available, but you can get this color of stone in the Rayne necklace, which is the same necklace but with a tassel at the bottom of the stone.  The slate Rayne necklace is also available via Rocksbox!!!  You can read a little more about it here (I also share how I purchased the magenta version of the Rayne necklace for only $29, which is reg. $80!).  Use code BRIGHTONABUDGETXOXO for 1 month free!

Second, my bar necklace, coin bangle, and Kentucky bangle all come from one of my favorite local shops, Lucky Peanut Jewelry.   The bar necklace has a cute little outline of Kentucky hand-stamped on the left side of the necklace and is a wonderful layering pieces.  The coin bangle is also hand-stamped with an outline of Kentucky, and both it and the Kentucky bangle are adjustable in size. I love these pieces because they're classy and so fun--plus, with March Madness quickly approaching, they'll compliment all of my UK apparel:)  The best part?  You can use code SHOPLOCALKY for 20% off of your entire purchase right now!

High Five for Friday 01.01.16

This post contains affiliate links.
TGIF, H54F-ers!!! Caitlin at Coffee with CaitlinDella at Della Devoted, Katie at Cup of Tea, and myself want to welcome you to the link-up and the weekend.  We made it!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

Can you believe it's already 2016?!  I can remember celebrating like it was 1999. . . and actually celebrating 1999. . .and now that's almost 20 years ago! Man how the time flies. For each and every one of you, I hope this is the BEST year yet!!!

Housekeeping: There's no featured blogger today since we weren't for sure how many people would be blogging on New Year's Day, but the featured blogger will return next week.  The looks of H54F will also be changing some, as we're going to be switching link-up tools to enhance the H54F experience in the next couple of weeks. And mark your calendars--the next H54F Google Hangout will be January 14.  We are excited to hop back into the hangouts.  We love connecting with you all!

Now that's outta the way, let's recap the highlights of the last TWO weeks:

1. I had some vacation days left that were set to expire yesterday, so I took 3 days off the week of Christmas for a full week vacation!  I kicked it off on Monday afternoon with some mac 'n cheese from Panera and an appointment at Posh Salon & Spa in Lexington.  I had a pedicure by Lisa and a trim by Jana Harris.  Love both of these ladies and highly recommend them.  If you happen to check them out, be sure to mention that I recommended you!

2. We celebrated Christmas with Kane on December 23 before he headed home from the holidays the next morning.  He loved all of his gifts, but this little set was probably his favorite from us.  He wouldn't put this set down while he opened everything else.  And does anyone notice the creeper in the background (no, I'm not talking about the snowman.haha)?

3. Being home for Christmas was a whirlwind, but so nice.  We had several get-togethers with both sides of the family, and both my mom and mother-in-law cooked some delicious meals.  There's nothing like being home for the holidays! Here I am wearing a couple of my favorite gifts--a pink vest from Gap Factory and a new turtleneck in a tall size from JCP.

4.  There's TONS of after-Christmas sales going on right now!  I did a post of some of my favorite sales and items here.  I believe several (if not most) of the sales are still going on, so don't miss out! One of the places I hit up was my favorite resale shop, Clothes Mentor Lexington.  They had an additional 40% off of their entire store, so I was able to get this Forever 21 sweater, NWT Lucky Brand jeans, and 2 pairs of Old Navy printed ankle pants for $26 TOTAL.  The Lucky Brand jeans even had the original price tag on them for $89!!!

5. We had a low-key NYE at home last night!  I had one last vacay day to use, so I spent it at home with Kane.  I read most of the day and spent time with him.  After Chauncey came home, we ordered pizza and snuggled in bed while watching Inside Out, which we all loved. Even Sox got into the NYE spirit.

Also, I just wanted to show off my latest Rocksbox!!!  Rocksbox is this deal where you pay $19/month and get a rotating box of 3 pieces of jewelry to wear. . .when you're done wearing the goodies in one box, you just packaging everything up, send it back, and you get a new box of pretties to try.  If you decide you want to keep something, then you get it at a discount and are available to apply "shine spend".  For example, I just had to keep this pink Kendra Scott necklace.  It retails for $80, but was only $64 with the Rocksbox discount.  Then I got an extra $35 off from my shine spend to make it only $29!!!  If this is something you think you'd be interested in, click here and get one month FREE by using code BRIGHTONABUDGETXOXO!!!  See their website for full details.

And if you're looking for some sparkly nails to sport this weekend, check out this week's post about glam nails and my favorite blog posts for 2015!
