High Five for Friday 03.24.17: Blogger Buddies

TGIF, H54F-ers!!! Della at Della Devoted, Katie at Cup of Tea, and myself want to welcome you to the High Five for Friday link-up and the weekend. We made it!

1. One of my good friends from law school had a baby shower on Saturday.  It was a lovely event and so nice to see my friends that I hadn't seen in a while. Afterwards, I stopped by the nail salon for a fresh SNS set.

2. On Sunday, I had a blogger brunch--thanks to Leela of Lex Eats for hosting us!  Mariah from Like Honey was in town, so I picked her up on the way to brunch.  It was such a good time!

3. Rynetta from J.Crew is My Fav Store and I have been trying to get together for dinner, and we finally made it happen!  We met up at Shakespeare & Co., which is a whimsical restaurant with storybook-like menus.  The food was amazing and the conversation was even better.

4. I needed to run to the mall to try on some clothes for an upcoming collab, so I promised Kane a trip to Build-a-Bear. They had just released Power Ranger bears, which I thought Kane would love. No, he wanted a dragon, so he picked out Hookfang.  He had such a good time making his dragon and giving it a bath before we left.

5. Last night, I headed out to TSG Lexington's Spring Fling. I had no idea what to expect from the event and was flying solo, but it turned out to be so much fun.  I ended up seeing the girls from Hartley Social and Kayla from Kayla Weber Art:)

ICYMI, here's this week's post:

St. Patrick's Day made T H R E E   Y E A R S  that I've been blogging! Wow!  If you haven't been around for the entire ride, believe me when I say that Bright on a Budget has come such a long way in those three years. Blogging has been a dream come true--I've taken this farther than I ever imagined, achieved goals that used to be just dreams, and made amazing friendships along the way. But you know what? YOU, yes YOU, are the ones who made this dream of mine a reality but following along through the years.  So as a big thank you to the best readers EVER, I've teamed up with some of my blogging buddies for an amazing giveaway--be sure to enter at the end of this post!

Top: c/o Lavish & Luxe Boutique--use code BRIGHT15 for 15% off! // Pants: Gap Factory (almost identical blue pair here--just $25!) // Sandals: Gianni Bini via Dillard's (almost identicalwedge version) // Necklace: J.Crew Factory (similar) // Sunnies: Quay--only $50! // Watch: Kate Spade (metal band, almost identical) // Cuffs: Loren HopeJ. Crew Factory // Bracelet: c/o Southern Belle Glitz

I'm digging ruffle sleeves right now, and this blush top from Lavish & Luxe Boutique is no different! The ruffle sleeves hit at just the right place and instantly up your fashion game. I love how lightweight this top is, so I know it will be a staple through summer! I ordered a size-up in this top. Also, can we talk about how my local Party City was sold out of gold, silver, pink, and blue #3 balloons? What a bummer, but the way I look at it, my #3 brought it's a-game and wore it's best little black dress to the shoot!haha

Colored Jeans for Spring

This post contains affiliate links.

I've been drawing a lot of outfit inspiration from the late 80's/early 90's here lately. The teal and peach colors of this outfit totally remind me of a 90's bridesmaid palette--in fact, I was a flower girl in a wedding with these colors! It was hilarious, because at the end of the wedding, the ringbearer ran down the aisle (he was supposed to wait one me) and I chased him!  How dare he leave me behind;)haha I think I was probably around four years old at the time.

ShadowSense + EyeSense Soft Smokey Eye Tutorial

Thanks to Lasting Lips with Ashley for sponsoring this post. As always, all opinions are my own. This post contains affiliate links.

I've been a fan of LipSense ever since late last summer, but I had never tried any of the brand's other makeup products.  I'm hosting an online party this Thursday night with my friend Ashley, who is in Becky's downline (you can join the party here). FYI--there will be discounts + giveaways! Ashley loves ShadowSense and EyeSense, so she sent me some products to try. I used them to create a soft, smoky eye look, so I shot a tutorial to share with y'all.

High Five for Friday 03.10.17: Lilly Reveal + Dinosaur Disaster

TGIF, H54F-ers!!! Della at Della Devoted, Katie at Cup of Tea, and myself want to welcome you to the High Five for Friday link-up and the weekend. We made it!

Our featured blogger section will return next week.

Now let's recap this week's highlights:

1. Last Saturday was the Lilly Pulitzer reveal at Clothes Mentor in Lexington!  My friend Jacque and I always go, so I was there at 8:45 a.m. waiting on them to open at 10:00 a.m.  My friend Katrina from KCK Bangles was also there.  It was sooooo cold out, but we all had fun!  I ended up with a Lilly for Target My Fans shift dress, a Lilly for Target scarf, and two pairs of regular Lilly shorts.

2. After the Lilly Reveal, Kane and I headed to eastern Kentucky for the night.  We ended up going out to eat with our family at the local Mexican restaurant. The food was great, but the company was even better!!! It's nice for everyone to go hang out together.

3. This week, I've been working on several upcoming collaborations that are a little different than what I've done before. While I can't share all the details just yet, I'm excited for everything that's in the works! One project I'm working on is a blogger mini collection of jewelry pieces selected by me, one of which is the bracelet shown above with writing on it:)

4. This past week was International Women's Day.  For a feature that Charming Charlie did in honor of the day, they asked who I modeled my style after. My answer: "My style is classic with a trendy twist, and I model that style after the everyday woman--regardless of the trend, it has to be wearable. I draw inspiration from my Instagram friends, fellow fashion bloggers, women I pass by on the street, and even my mom."

5. OMG, I have to share this with you. On Friday night, I could tell that Kane was being sneaky.  I asked him what he was up to, and he replied, "Honestly nuffin'." So I asked if he was being mean, and he said, "Yea." Well, turns out ol' boy had staged a dino battle on my WHITE sheets with RED bath pant.  There was "dinosaur blood" all over the place! He tried to say it was an accident, but trust me when I say that it was way too well executed to be an accident!haha Luckily it came out with a little Shout. Be sure you're following along on Snapchat (username: brightonabudget) and I'll post a picture of it.

Comfy Swing Dress

This post contains affiliate links.

Right now, I have a thing for stripes, and Old Navy is killing it with the stripes this season!  Last month I placed an order for some spring items. Most of what I purchased had stripes on it. Old Navy is great place to snag affordable trends and closet staples.

Squad Goals: Staying Fresh with Dove Advanced Care Deodorant

One of the reasons I blog is because I love sharing all my style and beauty tips and tricks!  I especially love sharing my latest finds with my squad. It's not unusual for me to message or Snapchat my friends telling them about my latest product discoveries. So when I tried out the Dove Advanced Care Deodorant, of course I had to tell my squad, especially my friend Della, about it! OK, and I may have went ahead and picked up one for her to try too!haha

I am so in love with this deodorant!  First, it smells amazing!!! I tried the Dove Advanced Care Rebalance Antiperspirant. It smells fresh and feminine, with just a hint of plum and sakura blossom scent. I've found other deodorants to be overpowering, but this one is just right! Second, it moisturizes the underarm area with Dove 1/4 moisturizers and NutriumMoisture.  There is nothing more annoying than dry underarms that rub against the seam of your shirt, and this deodorant prevents that.  It helps your underarms to be softer and smoother.

Finally, Dove Advanced Care Antiperspirant lasts up to 48 hours!  Sometimes, you just don't have time to shower before heading out in the morning. Let's be honest--we've all overslept at some point.  With this deodorant, I can head out the door the next morning without worrying about my deodorant letting me down during the day.

I wasn't the only who loved my new Dove Advanced Care Deodorant!  I grabbed Della the Dove Advanced Care Revive Antiperspirant, which smells like lemon verbena and fresh pomegranate. Here's what Della had to say about it:

I have finally found my new favorite deodorant! With Dove Advanced Care 48 hour protection, I no longer have to worry about my deodorant wearing off while I'm out and about or in-between showers. I tend to sweat a lot, especially at night, but Dove has taken care of that. I love the silky smooth feeling that I get with this deodorant and the long-lasting scent as well. As a busy mom on the go, this is the only deodorant for me!

Dove Advanced Care Deodorant will keep your whole squad feeling fresh and fabulous.  Be sure to try it out, and then refer it to your friends.  After all, friends share all their best beauty secrets with each other:)

No-Fail Trick for Pattern Mixing with LuLaRoe Jill

This post contains affiliate links.  This post is sponsored by LuLaRoe Tracy Vazquez, but all opinions are my own, as always.

Happy Monday!  Today I'm not only sharing my no-fail trick for pattern mixing, but Becky from byBMG, Nicole from What Nicole Wore, and I have teamed up with our friend from LuLaRoe Tracy Vasquez for a fun post!  We're all showing you ways to style different LuLaRoe skirts, and we're giving away a LuLaRoe skirt (winner's choice) to one lucky winner!

Top: J. Crew Factory (similar, similar, with ruffled sleeves)  // Skirt: c/o LuLaRoe Tracy Vazquez // Sandals: Gianni Bini (almost identicalwedge version) // Necklace: c/o Purple Peridot //Cuffs: Loren HopeJ. Crew Factory // Earrings: Sugarfix by Baublebar at Target // Sunnies: Quay--only $50! // Clutch: GiGi New York

Pattern mixing is so fun, but it can be intimidating. It took years for me to really jump into pattern mixing. Once I did, however, I realized just how it was! Now I pattern mix like it's nobody's business!  So what's the best way to begin pattern mixing if you never have before?

My no-fail pattern trick is to take any pattern other than stripes and just add stripes! How easy is that?!  Stripes on stripes is a little tricky to pull off, which is why I suggest do any pattern other than stripes.  This combination tends to work regardless of what other pattern you pick.  Here, I'm wearing a bold floral pattern, and I picked out a striped pattern in a matching color.

As for my skirt, I'm wearing a LuLaRoe Jill skirt.  LuLaRoe is great for pattern mixing because they have such fun prints!  The LuLaRoe Jill sits at your natural waist, with the elastic waistband adding definition to your figure.  The skirt itself features pleating and is very swingy. The material is silky, so it's great for the warmer months.

Now Becky is styling a LuLaRoe Madison skirt and Nicole is styling a LuLaRoe Lola skirt.  Be sure to check out how they styled their skirts, and enter to win your
OWN LuLaRoe skirt via the widget below!

High Five for Friday 03.03.17: Ebay + Easter Candy

This post contains affiliate links.

TGIF, H54F-ers!!! Della at Della Devoted, Katie at Cup of Tea, and myself want to welcome you to the High Five for Friday link-up and the weekend. We made it!

This week's featured blogger is Christina from The Patricios, a lifestyle blog, with a lot of fashion mixed in.  Christina is a mom of two.  I love this mommy-and-me jean jacket look.  And she's giving away a pair of Freshly Picked Moccasins that you can enter to win through this Sunday!

Shop everything here. Wallet is from Kate Spade Outlet.

Now let's recap this week's highlights:

1. It was so pretty on Friday night that Kane and I had a date night on the patio at Mod Pizza. It was fun to dine al fresco and spend time with them.  Then I went outlet shopping at Outlet Shoppes of the Bluegrass the next day and Chauncey took Kane out for a lunch date:) While I nabbed some things for myself, I also nabbed some things for upcoming giveaways, including a little something sweet from the pic above (I grabbed one for myself too)!

2. Um, why do I have to diet over the holidays?!  Easter candy is the BEST candy!  This week I picked up the Peeps Oreos and the new Cadsbury Chocolate Crunch and Creme Mini Eggs.  O. M. G.!  They are both so delightful and yummy, but a LOT of Weight Watchers points:(

3.  I grabbed lunch with another law school friend this week and it was so fun!  We went to the Shakespeare & Co. location in Hamburg, which just opened.  The decor is so fun--even the menus look like storybooks!  I had yummy chocolate chip pancakes

4. I have been stalking Ebay and Poshmark for a year trying to find a pair of Tory Burch Miller Flats in Dolce de Leche in my size for a prize I'm willing to pay (the color is a little hard to find).  Well, the search is over! I won an auction on Ebay last night and got the sandals for less than I was willing to pay!!!! I also found Kane the McDonald's Happy Meal Magic School Bus toys from circa 1994 on Ebay this week and they've already arrived!!! I totally had these as a child:)

5.  OK, I just found out about this event this week, and I'm so excited!  If you live in central Kentucky and love reading a good romance novel, then you have to checkout the Authors in the Bluegrass event!  It is April 22, and today is the last day to grab your tickets.  There will be over 50 authors there, including some of my faves--Abbi Glines, Jillian Dodd, Kathleen Brooks, etc. I will be volunteering at both sessions, so be sure to come say hi if you spot me there!

ICYMI, here's this week's posts:
